Starting To Use/set up AAC. What buttons suggest Have?
Chocolate milk emote I'm struggling with caligrafy due to my dysgraphia but I'm looking for a alternative
Our updated Twitch board <3
How I fuck with Coughdrop /positive
(Go into selection settings part of preferences, deselect "select on press", select "long-press" for inflections menu, and toggle "where I release my pointer" to "tap to select, swipe for inflections" in the "select based on" section, otherwise it'll double select the button, repeating phrases)
When creating the buttons, we'd go into the language portion of the settings, and custom add similar words to the "inflections" portion to essentially create a button that says multiple similar words instead of having to have individual buttons for each word
We press and hold on the button, and can choose which word we want in particular (for example, if we're talking about over-the-counter vs prescription medication, we have a single button that'll say either word)
It groups things together and keep it neat, which is perfect for our OCPD and autism
We're redoing all our boards/buttons
Instead of using pictures with label, we realized it made more sense for us to use word art as the pictures for our buttons
On one hand, we do like the emojis, they're fun and pretty
But our brain doesn't translate picture <--> word (hence why we can't do our own image IDs, it just... doesn't process [we have auditory processing disorder, is there a visual kind? or is it the aphantasia? Idk, kind of rambling here]), so it takes us longer to understand what each button is supposed to represent
It'd be better for us to instead do representative words for the phrases, instead of relying on the tiny label writings
No mental lag, plus our OCPD will like the uniformity of having it all be words/the "same" symbol
Tedious though (> . <)
Progress!!
The Council folder has phrases like "our collective name is The Council", "our name is The Council of Others, the council for short", ect and "our collective pronouns are plural they/it", "each alter has their own pronouns, but when in doubt, plural they/it is always acceptable", ect and and and
Phrases already has a folder for our buttons listing our safe media for if/when we ask that it be played, and we're gonna add usual food orders (got that autism same fooding), ect
Still gotta do disability phrases, so far just have "please be patient, I'm having a speech loss episode" and medication names, need something for auditory processing disorder and delusions/hallucinations...
Anything I'm missing?
