Hey. I love this blog! Representation is so important! I was wondering if you know of any books, YA or otherwise, with an asexual protagonist. I've heard of a few factual books, but no fiction. Does such a thing exist or am I just wasting my time? Thanks!
Awh, thanks! We agree, and we’re really happy to hear that you like it. :)
You’re not wasting your time! There are a few, although not many, out there. I’m not aware of any outside YA, but I’m sure they exist.
The only one I’ve read (so far!) is Guardian of the Dead by Karen Healey. It was not my favorite book, but I thought the ace rep was pretty good.
The only other I know of that for sure has a canonically asexual character is Quicksilver by R.J. Anderson, which is a sequel to Ultraviolet. However, I ran across this conversation on the fabulous LGBT YA goodreads group, where Rainbowheart recced Accepting Me by Jo Ramsey. There is also the Asexuals in Fiction list on Goodreads, but I can’t vouch for whether or not the asexuality of the characters is canon. lgbt-ya wrote this review of Clariel by Garth Nix that you might wanna take a look at.
Also, if you’re interested, I have a tumblr friend discordanddarkness who makes SUPER FABULOUS FAN ART of ace characters.
AND, this is a TV show, but if you can find a way to watch it Sirens on ABC has an openly asexual character.
I hope this all helps! It’s sad there are so few out there. But I’m hopeful that we will be seeing more ace characters in the next few years. If you run across any more in your search, please send them our way, or tell us what you thought of these! Best of luck. :)
Followers, do you have any books to add?
