Loonatics worldbuilding headcannons: Coyotes 1
I like to think that in Coyote culture their is a huge difference between Gifting and Sharing, so there’s many conflicting accounts of Coyotes being incredibly generous and needlessly territorial and selfish.
Gifting is the easiest love language for a coyote, platonic or romantically. Courting traditionally starts with bringing gifts to the person of choice. Friendship bracelets and items akin to that are considered VERY valuable/important and a breaking of said friendship can be visibly expressed by breaking such gifts.
The thing is, Coyote’s are fine with GIVING items away, but absolutely ABHOR sharing, even with loved ones.
See, a Coyote’s property is to be respected. You simply do not fuck with a Coyote’s things unless you are looking for a fight.
So it’s very hard to see someone else messing with THEIR stuff. Especially if they are handling it incorrectly.
This line of thought can extend to things in their care, especially with children, It’s why a good part of the traditional courting process involves seeing what exactly a person is willing to Share after seeing what they are willing to Give to a relationship. (And also why Coyote divorces are notoriously MESSY, ESPECIALLY with kids involved)
Don’t ever ask to borrow something from a coyote because animator above they will grill you about it nonstop until they get it back, and that’s IF they decide to lend you it.
Hence how Tech is perfectly happy to GIVE his devices, his babies away, but is so distressed/furious to have them touched/messed with and/or broken by others, enemies OR allies doesn’t matter.
TLDR: A Coyote would give you the shirt off their back but would never lend you their jacket. They don’t like sharing- it risks damaging what’s THEIRs. If they give you something, that item is yours to do as you please with it. If you break it doesn’t matter because it’s YOURS and not THEIRS.
