Daisy Birthing Stories Part 1: Big Babies
I've recently posted this at www.thelazydaisychain.co.uk so thought I would share this here too. A series of birth stories from mums attending Daisy Birthing classes with me...
Over the next couple of weeks, I would like to share with you a selection of birth stories from the lovely mums attending my Daisy Birthing classes. It’s always the highlight of my day when I receive a text or email with baby news!
One of the things mums in class are often concerned about is having a “big baby” so I thought I would start off with a couple of stories of the births of some slightly larger babies....
Starting off with Clare's story....
"Well finally at 11 days overdue *baby came into the world weighing a whopping 10lb 5oz!!! We did get a little caught by surprise and not a huge amount of opportunity to implement what I'd learned as active birth was only 50mins in the end but I certainly tried to use the escalator breath, and when he was coming before the MW arrived I remembered your advice to get into the resting position to take pressure off the cervix. And I did manage to use the bearing down breath twice before he popped out."
"I was given a sweep at 8 days overdue and booked in to be induced at 10 days over. At around 3.30am on the morning I was due to be induced I woke up and realised I was in labour. I managed at home using the breathing techniques and by keeping active, I had a bath for the backache and used a contraction timer app on my phone which seemed to help me concentrate too! Things seemed to progress fairly quickly so decided to leave for hospital dropping Finley off at nursery on the way, by the time we got to the end of our road my waters had broken! We got to hospital about 7.30 and there was a bit of a panic as there was no space on the delivery suite, I was really pleased though as this meant I would be in the midwifery led unit like i had wanted but told due to low platelets/anaemia that I wouldnt be allowed! I was examined and told that I had already got to 10cm-hoorah!! Rotate to dilate really does work lol :) I waited until I had the urge to push and then used gas and air. After hours of pushing on my own I was told that the baby was stuck and was taken to theatre to be prepped for an emergency c section and given a spinal block. I asked them to try a ventouse delivery and after only a couple of *baby was born at 10.22 weighing 11lbs 9.5oz!
I was so pleased that the techniques you had shown me had worked to move the baby when she was transverse but was absolutely over the moon to get to 10cm without any pain relief :)"
Amazing work mummies and just goes to show there is no need to panic if baby is measuring a bit big for your dates. Our bodies are built to birth and babies are grown to fit!
