On this episode of ‘the empire kids get themselves in trouble’...
Oh I had a very disturbing thought
Cree was a Cleric.
Lucien’s blood was her holy symbol
So the fact she reached out to Lucien, the Nonagon, on her deaths door... i don’t think she wasn’t reaching out for her friend... but rather her deity... asking for help...
She was trying for Divine Intervention
And not only was she heard, but she was directly ignored, abandoned and her form bastardized for the sake of Lucien’s own goals
[ CAMPAIGN 2, EPISODE 138 ]
MATT: The vial you identify — it worked and acted as Cree’s holy symbol, and the focus for her spellcasting. It does contain the blood of The Nonagon.
LAURA: The blood of the Nonagon…
TRAVIS: Fuuuuck yes *mimes chugging the vial*
TALIESIN: Shots!
MATT: What could possibly go wrong?
TRAVIS: If only we knew how to use that to our advantage.
TALIESIN: A little Clamato juice, some vodka, celery stick.
MARISHA: A “Bloody Molly.”
Before 140 aired, I saw a lot of people angry that this is the arc that C2 is ending on. People that couldn't understand why they were ending with an arc that wasn't personal to a member of the Nein. But that arc is personal to all the members of the Nein.
They didn't go and fight Lucien for themselves. Or to the save world. They didn't do it to be heroes. That wasn't what the Aeor was about for them in the slightest.
They did it for Molly. For the slightest chance that Molly was in there and would be despising everything that his body was doing without his control. For the chance to make Molly's story right again. For the reason that no member of the Nein gets left behind.
As Veth said, "The only thing we've done consistently as a group is take care of our friends."
And that's why the Aeor arc was the best arc to end on. Because they're not heroes for the world. They're heroes for their friends.
Somnovum
When I think about the Nein reaching out to Molly, this is what comes to mind. Critical Role Fanart Completed 5/3/2021
How about that Nat 20 tho
absolutely obsessed with Lucien fulfilling the classic villain trope of laughing an exponentially madder and madder laughter While setting of an amount of bombs that would be comical if it wasn’t for the fact that it’s about to kill everyone in the vicinity WHILE Sitting On A Throne
