Lizalnarg
āAeralfosā Ā© Nintendo. Accessed at ZeldaWiki here
[Another monster where the flavor text and mechanics are reasonably similar to the Hackmaster model, but the name has been changed. The original name in the Hacklopedias wasĀ āNizarāfangā, which I didnāt like, what with the unnecessary apostrophe. Iām glad I looked up Nizar, which I discovered is an Arabic given name. So that was right out. The name is one of the Japanese names for the Legend of Zelda monster Iāve swiped the art for.]
Lizalnarg CR 2 LE Humanoid This reptilian humanoid has immense leathery wings growing from its shoulders. It carries a small shield in one hand and a sword in the other.
Lizalnargs are a war-like flying offshoot of the lizardfolk. Unlike their swamp-dwelling kin, they are aggressive and expansionistic, engaging in slaver raids and interfering in the politics of humanoid nations. Their culture is obsessed with martial prowess, and their pecking order is a meritocracy based on skill in combat. Magical means are respected, with wizards and alchemists being not uncommon among lizalnarg sergeants, but cowardice is a weakness punishable by death.
Lizalnargs are omnivores with a taste for meat. They frequently keep livestock, particularly those that can survive in the sparse mountain landscapes they prefer. Animal husbandry is frequently delegated to slave labor, with a lizalnarg overseer watching over captive goatherds. Milk and milk products are a particular delicacy, and milk itself acts as a mild intoxicant similar to alcohol to lizalnargs.
In combat, lizalnargs prefer to attack en masse and from above. Ground-bound targets are softened up with missile weapons before the lizalnarg dives down to engage in melee. Lizalnargs are not very maneuverable in the air, and they prefer to stay ground-bound during extended melee combat. Lizalnargs rarely wear armor, as its weight and shape interferes with their wings, but shields are commonly used and magical shields are highly prized.
A lizalnarg stands about six feet tall and has a wingspan of ten feet.
