Agent Carter, Season 1

So I am attempting a MCU rewatch in chronological order and just finished Agent Carter’s first season. That show was so good. I really wish we could get a third season. There’s so much story to tell.

Hayley Atwell deserves so much credit for portraying Peggy grieving Steve. She showed the complexity of grief so beautifully. Peggy may have accepted her loss but the acceptance doesn’t make it any less painful. I also think she shows what Jemma Simmons meant about “holding that place in our hearts...visit from time to time, but we don’t move on.” I also loved seeing her do what’s right and find ways for her coworkers to get info they needed when she knew they wouldn’t listen. Her choosing to leave evidence for Daniel Sousa because she wanted him to get the credit (for respecting her).

This season is where Howard Stark is most compelling in the whole of the MCU, largely because he shows a different side of grief. He never accepted the loss of Steve, could never let go, and always searched for him. Tony alludes to this. Agent Carter shows it. We also see a lot of his guilt for when his scientific aspirations go wrong and get into the wrong hands. I think there are some interesting parallels to Fitz’s season 4 storyline there. I also can’t help but wonder if a lot of his research is discussed in the Academy’s “potentiality” talk. 

Edwin Jarvis is a gem. I love him and his unwavering loyalty. He would do anything for his friends.

Daniel Sousa is also a gem. I love that he maintains his gentleness in a culture that doesn’t appreciate it. I can see how Peggy could fall for him.

I would like to think that Angie Martinelli’s acting career took off and she never forgot Peggy’s support. Imagine her bringing Peggy up in an acceptance speech. Seriously, someone in the MCU should just bring a movie she was in up in casual conversation and talk about how great she was in it. Please.

Dottie Underwood is such a compelling antagonist. She was far more interesting than the season’s Big Bad, Dr Faustus who is important don’t get me wrong. She was someone whose story I would like to see continued.
