HFK Thoughts

I’m so happy that Halsey is back. No one puts as much spirit, intensity, and raw passion into their music as Halsey and it definitely shows in everything that she has released so far, especially HFK. My favorite part about Halsey is that every album or EP that she has ever released has told a story. They have revealed facets of her life and been a peek into her state of mind, and this album gives all of that in spades. This album is different yet doesn’t deprive her fans of the Halsey that we all know and love. You can tell she’s definitely experimented more sonically, with a more sleeker and tighter production as well as played around with the kind of sound that she is going for. There’s some R&B influences as well as some Hip-hop influences and some throwback sounds from the early and mid 2000’s, but she also stayed true to her electro-pop and alt-pop leanings. HFK is very different lyrically from Badlands but all the better for it. As much as I loved Badlands the last thing I would want is to hear is a retread. On Badlands her fiery, no holds barred attitude was on full display, it was very much an album about a young woman who was finding her wings and starting to take those tentative steps out into the world and trying to combat all that the world had in store for her. It was fun and showed off Halsey’s punch as a lyricist and a story teller. HFK, on the other hand, takes a much different approach. It’s much more reflective, pensive, and melancholy as a whole. At times, it’s extremely emotive and downright depressing. There were moments on Badlands where this side of Halsey was on display but HFK really seems to delve deeper into it. The album also showcases Halsey as a vocalist and she takes a lot more risks on HFK vocally than she did on her last album, which in my opinion shows how much she is growing as an artist. Overall a wonderful album that highlights the huge strides that Halsey has made as a musician.

100 Letters (catchy and so so beautiful, lyrically one of the best songs on the album)

Sorry (made me almost cry)

Alone (plays around with that R&B sound I was talking about also a banger)

Hopeless (just a damn good song with amazing production)
