I love characters who resemble dead loved ones and they end up being used to fill the space left behind.

Y'know like, grief, grief being love with nowhere else to go.

So those grieving end up using you to cope. Using you as a placeholder. A vessel to pour all their love into even if it does not belong to you.

Hurt/Angst ahead.

You've come to the resistance, way before the Sarentu children do.

But when they see you. Their breath catches at just how much you resemble Aha'ri.

They're exchanging looks with Alma, who looks back at them knowing exactly what they're thinking, she knows what they're seeing.

Nor thought it was the RDA's doing, another one of their cruel jokes. Alma says no, you were just someone who happened to look like her. Happened to act like her as well.

What's worse is how you were the age Aha'ri would've been if she was still alive.

Nor hates you, in a way. But still can't help being around you regardless. You were so similar to their old friend. From the looks down to the personality. At least when you were in your avatar.

"Why the fuck are you here again." You pull a face at him, one of disgust. But not in a malicious way. Not really.

"Am I not part of the resistance?" Nor asks, tilting his head at you as he leans against the wall, watching you work. Then he stands up, walking closer to the table, pretending to be observing the flora. "I'm working to help too."

"...you are but I'm sure your work doesn't involve studying plants skxawng." The na'vi insult rolls off your tongue naturally when directed at him. He remembers Aha'ri.

He tends to linger around you a lot. Despite you both always at each other's neck.

He's not that much of a bother if you're honest with yourself. He's like a kid who can't seem to leave the one adult who pays attention to him.

You only realize what your presence meant to them when Tamtey breaks, crying as she comes to you in your little area within the base. In her delirious state. She calls you he late sister's name.

"Aha'ri, I'm so tired." She sobs, falling into your arms.

And you're quiet. Holding her, watching her. Alma warned of you this once. You and your soft heart. You and this inherent desire of yours to help ease pain. Even at your expense. Despite your better judgement, against Alma's better judgement. You let Tamtey find comfort in your presence.

You let her call you Aha'ri.

This happens often, whenever Tamtey comes back, exhausted from a mission. She seeks you out.

And so do the others.

Overtime the other Sarentu children follow suit, calling you her name too. By mistake at first.

It starts slow.

"Aha'ri, can you come help?" The comm crackles to life, Ri'nela's voice on the other end. She realizes her mistake and immediately corrects herself. "Sorry, I didn't mean to—"

"That's okay." But there was this tug in your chest. You felt bad for them. Pity them. Unable to bring yourself to correct them, or stop them from calling you Aha'ri at all.

Over time they stop correcting themselves.

"Aha'ri, come eat with us."

"Aha'ri." Their voices soft, wrapped in love, love meant for someone else.

Gone was your name. Not that they never knew. Just that they completely discarded it for something else. Someone else's.

You knew it was wrong. There's this twist in your chest that hurts just enough as time passes. You're not loved for you. You're loved for what comfort you bring. And it hurts. But you try not to let it show.

Because when they look at you like that, like you're the only one who can help. When you feel their desperation whenever you pull away, when things get too much, the expectations. You can't help but oblige.

"This isn't healthy. You know this." Alma confronts you one day.

"I do."

"You need to put a stop to this. They won't listen to me, but they'll listen to you."

"I know." Frustration rising in your tone.

But you don't enforce it.

You try. Once.

"Hey, Tamtey—"

And she enthusiastically looks back at you, curious. She's smiling at you, eyes full of affection. Affection that woudl not be directed to you if you did have the appearance you do right now.

"Yes?"

The words die in your throat. You can't do it. Not when she's looking back at you like that. Like you're her entire world. You can't be the one to take her world away from her again. Not if you can help it.

"Never mind." Your voice tight, but soft all the same.

So'lek's the one who still calls you your name. It helps with your identity crisis that has gotten worse since this fake persona began. You find his presence comforting. You feel bad of course, that you’re relying on him so much.

He's the one who still corrects the others whenever they call you Aha'ri's name.

"So'lek can you hand this to Aha'ri." Teylan asks, reaching a device to the older na'vi. Who's looking at him with an unreadable expression on his face before wordlessly taking it.

"Of course. I'll give it to Y/N." He makes sure to put emphasis on your name. A reminder that you are you and not a ghost from the past returned. And Teylan would freeze. Guilt passing through his face. But he doesn't say anything more.

"...thanks, So'lek." He'd mutter, no acknowledgement whatsoever in what happened. "Tell them I said hi."

But he’s the only one who seems to understand. It's an incredibly complicated situation. And so far So'lek's been the only one who's successfully managed to maneuver around it without encouraging the behavior.

And he’s close with the Sarentu children as well. He doesn't get angry at them. He understands. It's grief coming back in full force. He can't imagine what it's like to see an old loved one this. Someone who looks exactly like them.

He knows this is just them trying to desperately cope.

But So'lek still adamantly disapproves of this. What you were doing, what the Sarentu children were doing. He doesn't like the fact that you're just letting them use you. Doesn't like that you let it happen despite how much it's affecting you. Doesn't like how much of it has been destroying you.

He sees how the exhaustion clings to you. The guilt. Pretending to be someone you're not. Stepping in and taking on a persona that's not you. Because while you have similar personalities to the Sarentu's late sister. You have many differences from her as well. And it doesn't take a while for them to notice.

Whenever you do something that wasn't very Aha'ri-like, they question you. Putting down the bait. Hoping you step back into the act of their loved one:

"Aha'ri, are you okay? Don't you like these movies? You used to like them back then." Teylan would ask. And your breath hitches.

"No, I hate these movies. I find them so incredibly boring." You wanted to say that, yell, scream. There has been this resentment building inside you for so long, threatening to explode. Trying to break out of this prison you made for yourself. It almost does, you're nearing your limit, you don't know how much longer you can play this part.

But then you see the expression on his face. Waiting. Searching, And so very eager to please you. So you smile, forcing the feeling down, swallowing the bile bubbling up your throat. Oh God, you want to throw up.

"I'm okay Teylan. Just got distracted." You smile kindly at him. And he finally smiles again. Excited.

It's not their fault. You keep trying to remind yourself. It's not their fault I started this. I should've stopped when I had a chance to then. I dug this hole.

"Okay! Good! This is the best part of the movie! It always made you laugh!"

So'lek judges you for it. Watches how your expression looks of pain when the Sarentu children are not looking at you. And how you still put on a smile when they look back at you again. Mask seamlessly put back into place. Smiling so wide he thinks it should hurt.

And it does. But you do not complain.

"This is wrong." He says once. You immediately know what he's referring to. You're pursing your lips, continuing to work.

"I don't know how to stop anymore, and I don't know how to tell them to stop." You say honestly. The most honest you've been in a long time.

But ultimately he understands you just want to help them. Even if your way of helping is toxic to both you and them.

"...this will end badly." He speaks up again, eyes watching you carefully. "There are no other possibilities where this ends well."

"...I know." You sigh once more.

AFOP: Tamtey’s Accent

It’s always kind of bothered me that The Sarentu/Tamtey has no Na’vi accent whatsoever, even though Teylan who is younger, does have a Na’vi accent. So the argument that being raised from a young age by the RDA is the reason for Tamtey’s lack of accent kind of goes out the window.

I also don’t particularly care for any of the three voice options for Tamtey as they are all equally white bread and naive. So I’m head-canon-ing my way out of this.

I propose that Tamtey perfects their/her/his English accent as a means of survival for both themselves and their fellow Sarentu. Walk with me here. It’s made clear that Mercer and Harding have little to no care for the Na’vi language and TAP focuses more on making the Sarentu “human” rather than true human and Na’vi ambassadors. So I believe that Tamtey loosing their accent and becoming fully fluent in English is something that would be applauded by Mercer in some way. I think it’s also possible that if at least one of the TAP kids became fully fluent in English and/or completely lost their accent that might take some of the heat off of the others to do the same. Maybe Tamtey allowed their accent to be stripped from themselves so that Nor, Ri’nela, Teylan, and at some point maybe even Aha’ri, could be allowed to keep theirs

I know on some level it may make more sense for Teylan to be the one to have no accent, or less of an accent at least (especially since Nor claims Teylan can barely speak Na’vi), but I can headcanon my way out of this too. Within the heacanon I’ve presented, I theorize that Teylan would have been too young to develop a proper accent at the offset. He was likely still learning words as any toddler would, and was not yet old enough to make conscious decisions about the way he spoke. I theorize that while Tamtey was “distracting” Mercer and Harding with her linguistic skills, this allowed Teylan to spend more time around Aha’ri, Nor, and Ri’nela. Who all had Na’vi accents themselves, and nurtured that same voice in Teylan during his earliest formative years. Before he was old enough to seek and gain more and more of Mercer’s attention.

This is getting a bit too sad for my liking, so I also propose that Tamtey/The Sarentu stayed perfectly fluent in Na’vi (or the closest thing to it they can be while respecting the lore) and that Tamtey speaks Na’vi with no accent either. I think this is Tamtey’s silent rebellion against Mercer and loosing their accent. To outwardly sound the most “human” of all the TAP children, but to inwardly retain that closeness to their language and heritage. I believe that at least in this respect, Alma would aid Tamtey in their goal of fluency in both languages because it’s at least something she can do as a teacher. Plus, she can argue that it’s to the benefit of The Ambassador Program if Mercer inquires about it, because how else are these potential ambassadors meant to communicate between humans and Na’vi without proficiency in both languages?

Anyway, that’s my little anecdotal headcanon to explain Tamtey’s accent. Let me know your thoughts!! Or if you know any lore that I don’t that could affect this whole little headcanon, I’d love to hear it!

If we're thinking about the fact that na'vi stay in the same mindset from the last time they connected to the spirit tree even after they died, I wonder how young Aha'ri would be in the spirit world.

I think she'd be like 4 or 5 cause she died at 6 and Tamtey would be about 1 or 2 ish years younger than her.

Imagine our adult Tamtey finally getting to see their sister again, and she's amazed at the warrior they've become because to her, they were just sitting by the moot with their mother a little while ago

The PC connecting to a tarsyu and seeing Aha’ri.

Except she’s small. Smaller than when they were in TAP and is wearing what looks to be Sarentu clothing. An Aha’ri who still has a bright, innocent glint in her eye and has never experienced the weight of trying to care for an entire clan of orphans. An Aha’ri who has never walked through a massacre, been abused at TAP, or gotten shot in the back.

An Aha’ri that’s from a time the PC can’t remember.

This Aha’ri looks up and exclaims that their little sibling has gotten so big! And looks so strong!! What have they been doing?!

The PC looks at this child who is so painfully small. Who is both familiar and not. And does not know what to say.

A Call from Ewya

Chapter 1. The last straw

Base on this fanart post that i have reblogged. May make more parts depending on where the story takes me (there will be some canon divergance obviously) but will try and stick to the games story/timeline as much as i can. i will also try and make the sarentu (the player character) as gender netural as i can too. hope you enjoy!

A loud bang. Followed by the scent of blood. Aha'ri's blood. You crouch next to her, a small pool of liquid staining the cold metal ground. You look to Mercer. The gun in his hand still smoking. His voice is muffled but you can see the coldness in his eyes still.

Then suddenly your back in the bunkroom. You yelp and swat away the hands shaking you awake. You whirl around and see Alma. Her ears flattened and eyes sad. "You were crying in your sleep..." she whispered. You go to say something to her but she is quick to shush you. "Im not meant to be here... so be quiet while i wake the others."

You nod as she goes bunk to bunk waking the other children. Soon all of you are awake; eyes wide and ears alert from the tension in your teacher despite having been asleep earlier.

"Alma? Whats happening?" Teylan asks quietly, shifting from foot to foot.

"Im finishing what Aha'ri started." She said firmly "We are getting out of here."

"But we cant! It didnt work the first time! Aha'ri died because we tried to leave!" Teylan cries loudly. Alma shushes him harshly. But bends down when he flinches at the sound. "We have to Teylan... its no longer safe here. Aha'ri should still be will with us... it was never supposed to happen. It was wrong. Mercer was wrong." Teylan sniffles and looks up at Alma again. She strokes his head. "Be brave. Let's go"

The forest glows in the moonlight. You cant stop yourself from staring at eveything. You hold onto Yefti and Telisi's hands to ensure you dont get lost or wander off too far.

"Alma? Where are we going? How long are going to walk? Its scary out here..." Teylan whimpers jumping as a bug flies past his face. He shrieks again and covers his ears. Ri'nela comes up to him and rubs his back as you keep walking, ensuring he does trip.

"He is such a wimp... dont coddle him too much Rinela, you'll only make it worse" you hear Nor mutter quietly. He, seemingly the most bold and unafraid of the outside. Ri'nela glares at him, before turning back and soothing Teylan whose ears were now uncovered.

After what feels like hours wandering aimlessly in whatever direction your teacher chose you reach a rather large clearing. In it sport a decently sized body of water with a little patch of land sitting in the middle. You and a couple others start to make your way to the waters edge when your ears perk at a sound of pattering seemingly headed your way. Alma gasps loudly. "Hide! Children this way! Hurry!"

She ushers toward an opening in the clifface on nearest to the waters edge. You scamper to her side as she herds you all in. Hudled at the back of the cave - or as far back as you can manage - you hear voices next to you begin to whisper.

"Is it mercer?"

"Has he found us already?! What are we going to do?!"

"Everyone be quiet! They will hear us!"

The sounds of what you now know as a RDA Samson flies overhead. A bright light beaming down on the onto the ground; searching. You listen as the scared sounds of your peers ripple quietly across the stone walls. Once... Twice... Three times the metal machine circles the clearing before it leaves. You can hear Alma heave a relieved sigh as she huddles closer to the group "i think it will be best if stay here for the night. We cant risk being spoted now." She says softly.

"Will we be safe here?" Onki murmurs cautiously, her fingers twisting together in anxiety.

"For now. We will move as soon as it is light outside. So try not to worry and get some rest. Goodnight" she yawns and lays down. Falling asleep almost instantly.

"Alma is right. We will need a lot of rest." Ri'nela agrees. She follows Alma's lead and curls up next to her. Soon, all of you at in a massive cuddle pile, wishing each goodnight. Hands and tails holding each other tight.

"Alma! Wake up! Wake up this isnt funny!" You hear the harsh whispers of Yefti as you are jostled awake from a dreamless sleep. They, along with Onki are shaking the Older lady aggressively, eyes wild and stressed. Light streams through the cave and you realise that is already morning.

"Yefti? Onki? Whats wrong? Why isnt Alma awake yet?"

"I dont know! But there are humans outside and we dont know what to do! They have a Samson out there and they are really close to the cave!" Yefti amswers quietly the tail behind them lashing violently.

You look over their shoulder and see Yuayt near the cave entrance; watching the humans. You sneak up cautiously and yank him back harshly. He yelps but you smack his hand over his mouth. "Do you want to get caught Yuayt?" You scold. He shakes his head "then stay away from there. They couldve seen you!"

"But the Samson had markings on it! Ones i dont recognise" He mutters, wiggling out of your grasp. But before you can go and check it out you hear a voice outside

"Is that a cave over there?"

Oh no.

You smack Yuayt on the forehead mouthing "you are an idiot and now we're going to die" scrambling over with him to hide behind Alma.

Just as the voices begin to get closer Alma starts to wake up. Groggily she notices your scared faces.

"Humans. Outside" Teylan whimpers

Her eyes widen and she motions to stay put. Slowly, she begins to go outside. However when she sees who it is, she seemingly relaxes. The unknown voice pipes up again.

"That you Alma? Damn, i almost didnt recognise you! We heard over RDA radio chatter that you spirited away those kids of yours in the middle of the night and figured this was the only way you could go. Pretty ballsy if you ask me, from the sounds of it your lucky we found you when we did!"

"And you must be Anqa Salaam the resistance's pilot. Yeah... it is fortunate you found us first. I dont know how i wouldve talked my way out if the RDA found us first..." she sighs. As she turns to the group she smiles. "Its ok everyone. They are friends"

Nor scoffs "humans? Didn't we just run away from them? How are they friends?"

Ri'nela hisses at him and swats his shoulder lightly.

"Come we should get moving again before the RDA find this place."

She leads you out to where the RDA Machine is. There, stands a lady in a tank top with another lady next to her. "Hey there everybody" the voice; Anqa, says "my name is Anqa, and this here is Dani"

Dani waves and gives a warm smile as well "hey kiddos, lets get you someplace safe huh? We will make sure you dont have to worry about the RDA ever again." Slowly, with the help of Dani and Anqa all of you get into the large metal contraption. As the doors close the whiring of the propellers launches the Samson into the air. Teylan yelps and grabs onto almas arm. She laughs a little and rubs his shoulder. Soon yoir steady in the air and high above the trees. You watch in awe at the view.

"So where are we going now?" Onki asks

"To the resistance HQ" Dani's voice answers "There are a lot of people who will be thrilled to know your safe."

You listen as Dani and Anqa tell you about the resistance, and what they doing to stop the rda as you fly over the forest. The more they talk about it the more excited and nervous you get.

Your mind wanders back to your sister. Aha'ri. You wonder if she would want this too, what she would do. A hand places itself on your shoulder and you see Alma smiling sadly

"I miss her too. But dont worry, we can start again at resistance HQ. Youll be where you belong, living and breathing pandora. As you should. We will take down the RDA and make sure this never has to happen to anyone ever again." By the time Alma has finished her eyes burn with passion and fury. Soon yours do to, a spark burning bright in your chest.

The Samson then lands and you are surrounded by what looks like a run-down makeshift base. The doors open and you see the proud faces of Dani and Anqa again.

"Welcome kids, to Resistance HQ"

Hopefully this turned out ok! I will need to look through logs and see what they say about Onki, Yuayt, Yefti and Telisi. Ive kinda just given them small lines and my own characteristics for now until i can get a better feel for them.

I've pretty much given up on recovering my files, so I mashed together what I could from my old pictures, but the quality is bad. I'm hoping to redraw them someday, but I figured I would start here.

(There was supposed to be more, but I hadn't finished them. But, I at least plan on redrawing these 5, and then 1 more).
