what’s rex’s relationships like with the AIO characters living in odyssey? what does he think about them and what do they think about him? would love to hear more in depth about his relationship with his dad’s too :3
Rex is actually pretty reclusive. Due to his disabilities he’s not really able to leave the theatre very often (In my AU he lives with Edwin & Shakespeare in an apartment attached to the theatre itself), so he doesn’t have many friends.
He was homeschooled for most of his life as he wasn’t physically healthy enough to attend traditional school. Edwin and Shakespeare did their best, but a lot of his homeschooling came from Whit and Eugene (and maybe Connie).
Once he was 14 or so he was deemed strong enough to attend school, and he’s automatically the odd one out. He doesn’t ever really make friends with any of his peers and being in public school really messes with his health. Eventually Edwin pulls him out of public school so he can finish his education at home where he’s safer & more comfortable.
Among other kids he’s known mostly as “The Blackgaard Kid” or “Edwin’s Creepy Son.” The only people that see him frequently are his dads (obviously), Whit, Connie, Eugene, and Richard. The Rathbones know him but he prefers to keep his distance from them.
As for his relationship with his dads, it’s pretty good, albeit not perfect. Edwin was completely incompetent in raising him (and of course he didn’t really want to), leaving Shakespeare to do the majority of the work. Shakespeare absolutely DOTES on Rex, always making sure he’s safe and comfortable. Edwin was pretty distant as Rex was growing up, but over time he grew closer to him and started to become very protective, starting to take a stand and act like an actual father figure.
