Welcome to the sequel, where the rules of spirit channeling and the like have gotten way more complicated... (among other things)

Día De Los Muertos Narumayo?
(Cause she’s a spirit medium)
Decided to represent it in an ofreda way, cause i felt that union of their families would really bring out the deep importance of the bond Phoenix and Maya share, which is very important to Narumayo, also Ryuususa is there heheheheh :3c
Dear Askbrokenage,
While I have stayed to the legacy as the Master of Spirit Channeling, I've always encouraged my daughters to create their own legacy no matter which it is. It would make Ami proud.
- Misty Fey
So I decided to start brainstorming names for those Fey ancestor characters, and since they'd have Japanese names, I thought a good place to start would be to look on the Wiki for all the Fey clan's names in Japanese (excluding Dahlia, Iris and Bikini since they seem to be following their own name conventions) and what they say about the meanings, and see if I can determine a pattern to work with
I did find some connective tissue, but unfortunately, I'm going to have a really hard time working with said tissue for reasons I'll explain later
For now though, I'll just show you the Wiki sections to show you what I'm talking about
Maya Fey
Mia Fey
Pearl Fey
Misty Fey
Morgan Fey
Ami Fey
So the connection I noticed is that, with the exceptions of Mayoi and Harumi (the former of which is stated to have been chosen purely for aesthetics rather than character), each of these names seem to involve some form of wordplay or reference. Chihiro’s name is a pun, Maiko and her fake name Erisu work together to create a reference to a short story, Kimiko is a reference to a historical queen, and Kyoko’s name is the reverse of a word for “child”. Even their surname Ayasato has elements of wordplay, with aya possibly being a homophone
Though granted, now that I think about it, Ace Attorney is known for its pun names, and I think I’ve heard that this is the case in Japanese too, so this might not be exclusive to the Ayasatos whatsoever
But regardless, this use of wordplay causes problems for me because wordplay requires a degree of knowledge in that particular language, enough to know homonyms or other puns, or works or historical figures to reference. And I don’t know Japanese, so I’m kind of screwed on this front
Though maybe I’m overthinking it all. Like I said, I don’t think this wordplay is exclusive to the Ayasatos, and I’m pretty sure the 10 people who see the eventual OCs aren’t really going to care that I don’t have an extensive knowledge of Japanese to make the most perfect pun names ever. And it’s not like these characters are official anyways, and the official developers would give them those well-researched perfect names if they did. I can probably cheese it
The other observation I had is that for the older members of the clan, their names all have ko, which means “child”, and 2/3 reference children in some way, so I can probably use that for my characters, at least the female one. Could probably call her Tomoko to reference her friendly personality
Well regardless, I can at least share this information with you about the Japanese Fey names, since I thought it was interesting

Been following along with nezumi’s SoJ playthrough! I went in (mostly) blind, and this last case was quite a doozy!
