Constructed Burgers.
"Is there any way I could ask you to make a construct burger for me?"
"What a fascinating way to start a conversation." But when Hal looked at Phantom, he had to pause. For a self-proclaimed ghost, he looked a lot more worn down than usual. Kid wasn't even floating, which was highly irregular.
Phantom wasn't a kid, per se, but he was younger than most members of the Justice League. So that moniker was sticking around longer than most.
"Well- it's just-" Phantom puffed out a breath and rubbed the back of his neck. "It's not uncommon for strong spirits to... feed... on emotions."
Hal blinked. He blinked again. And then he took a breath, waiting for further explanation as Phantom ducked his head further and further down, his cheeks glowing fiercely green.
"And... you want to eat a construct burger?"
The Ghost nodded his head shyly. "If it's not too much trouble." And then the nervous rambling started as the kid pulled off his gloves and wrung them slowly between his hands.
"I've been having a bit of an off week, and my mentor said I should ask. But he's kind of a yeti, so I'm not sure if that's a quirk of his species or if all ghosts can do it. He told me I could and that it'd be good for my core if I did intake some external emotion because he said I was constantly feeding on myself. And that's kind of a form of autocannibalism, which I can only do because I'm kind of a really weird ghost who formed weird through-"
"Kid, you don't have to explain your whole life story to me. My only question is, why me?"
"We've been on a few missions together, and every time I see your construct, I get hungry. I was hoping I'd feel a little less weird if it was burger-shaped instead of trying to take a bite out of a wrecking ball or something." Phantom was glowing green again, running a nervous hand through fluffy white hair.
"Say no more. I got you, kiddo." Hal chuckled as he held out a hand with a green semi-transparent burger on it, watching Phantom's eyes dilate and track it like a cat with catnip. His nose even twitched.
Phantom's eyes rapidly moved between him and the burger as he moved to grab it, as though making sure that Hal wouldn't take it back or something. And Hal, well, he could freely admit that he was curious to see how this would work.
To say he was surprised when the construct buns squished between Phantom's hands like bread would be an understatement. And then when Phantom took a bite out of it and it deformed and tore gently instead of shattering like glass.
Hal needed to look into this.
