a look into L and Light’s relationship

L and light’s relationship is much more complicated than any of us want to admit. there are the usual two sides, people who hardcore ship them romantically and the people who see them as enemies. i am quite honestly in the middle. in my “explanation” here i’m going to go based off of one of my theories/headcanons.

in this scenario, i believe both light and L are aro. these trash men really don’t care about that kind of love (and don’t feel it obvs) and mainly want self success in their lives. they rely mostly on themselves for their needs, both emotional and otherwise. though, honestly, neither of them deal with emotions correctly or really at all. but that’s beside the point. my main point with L and light’s relationship is that they have a strong, otherworldly bond. it’s not something that either of them understand or really like. and don’t get me wrong, it’s not exactly a good bond. they intellectually match each other which is something neither of them thought to be possible, hence why they deem each other formidable allies and rivals. but because these two are both extremely egotistical and cynical, it’s hard as hell for them to accept each other as beings. they look to one up each other in a way as to prove to themselves that they are better. with their bond i believe they connect on (almost) every level and are so similar that it scares them. light believes he is mentally high enough to be god so having someone so close to his intelligence level is intimidating and frustrating. it’s not hard to imagine why they didn’t get along. but there’s something there that i absolutely love about their dynamic and the show. at least in my opinion, they have weird and small soft spots for each other. it’s something unexplainable and foreign to them, but along with their loathing there comes a bit of curiosity and even joy at *finally* being understood by somebody. L and light found something in each other that they never thought they would- a true mental equal.
