Are there different types of anger disorders?
Yes there are different types of anger disorders.
Chronic anger- an ongoing ‘underlying’ form of anger, often caused by a generalised resentment of life and of other people. It can impact the immune system and be the cause of other mental disorders.
Passive anger- doesn’t always come across as anger and can be difficult to identify. Passive anger may be expressed through sarcasm, apathy, meanness, avoidance or by purposefully performing sub par.
Overwhelmed anger- caused when circumstances become to great for an individual to cope with. This anger is closely related to frustration. Overwhelmed anger can be caused either by a situation or by life in general.
Judgmental anger- which is directed toward others and may come with feelings of resentment. This can then be expressed as critical, scathing or hurtful comments directed at the source of the anger.
Self-inflicted anger- which is directed toward the self and may be caused by feelings of guilt. This can then result in self harm either emotionally or physically, or can manifest itself more subtly as an eating disorder, self deprecation, or self sabotage.
Volatile anger- comes and goes and can be explosive and intense when it does. This is often triggered by a perceived wrong or a personal annoyance. It leads to physical or verbal outbursts.
Retaliatory Anger - This is directed at an individual or organisation in order to ‘get back at them’ for a perceived wrong on their behalf. For example this type of anger might be caused by an insult, or by a company refusing to refund faulty goods. This is essentially the motivation for actions of revenge.
Constructive anger- Constructive anger describes anger that motivates positive reform or action such as protesting. It’s possible to use this type of anger yourself to get things done and create drive and motivation. This way your activity becomes a form of catharsis for anger you have purposefully created.
