Kartoffelernte - Potato Harvest
Some of you might have forgotten a bag of potatoes at some point. Mine looked all shriveled up and had long sprouts. But instead of throwing them all away, we simply buried them in the garden. On the balcony, you can plant them in special pots, which works just as well.
Incidentally, the green parts and sprouts of the potato (Solanum tuberosum), were voted poisonous plant of the year 2022 because they belong to the nightshade family.
Cooked or baked, it is very healthy and contains not only plenty of fiber to aid digestion, but also minerals such as magnesium, iron, and potassium. It is also rich in protein, with a high-quality amino acid composition, and contains several B vitamins and lots of vitamin C. This gives it antioxidant, immune-boosting, and nerve-strengthening properties, and it is also low in calories.
With the proud feeling of a gardener, we took the wonderful tubers out of the ground today. Fresh, crunchy and actually three times as many. How fantastic is that?
