“canon? never heard of her”
Look, I adore Canon. Truly. She’s like that responsible friend who shows up to brunch with a color-coded schedule and a sensible purse.
I appreciate her. I respect her.
I would absolutely let her hold my drink while I sprint into chaos.
But also… Canon gives me one crumb of interaction between two characters and my brain immediately flips open a 47-chapter Google Doc labeled “soulmates.”
Canon: “They’re just friends.”
Me: “In MY house they share a toothbrush.”
Canon: “They met once.”
Me: “Perfect. That’s enough for a three-book saga.”
Canon is out here doing her best, building plotlines, managing continuity, keeping the world from collapsing like a badly stacked Jenga tower.
Meanwhile, fanfic writers are in the corner like:
“What if I bent reality like warm taffy and made them both emotionally constipated idiots in love?”
We don’t hate Canon.
We love her.
We just… respectfully wander off the designated path like chaotic forest children who saw something shiny.
Canon sets the table.
Fanfic writers rearrange the cutlery, add glitter, adopt the waiter, set the kitchen on fire, and somehow make soup out of it.
Canon: “Please follow the storyline.”
Us: “Absolutely. No problem.”
Also us: immediately builds a completely different storyline with 99 percent feelings and 1 percent plot.
Canon is the foundation.
Fanfic is the treehouse we built on top of it using vibes, duct tape, and forbidden yearning.
And honestly?
It’s a perfect ecosystem.
