Write something compatible with Thirsty Sword Lesbians!
i’ll also be running Defy the Gods in June!
If anyone wants a link to the Thirsty Sword Lesbians discord server, let me know! It’s not linked publicly as there’s few mods currently, but I’m happy to message the link privately. There’s tons of free resources there, some of the creators are there, other GMs, and generally everyone is friendly and helpful :) recently someone has been trying to put together a Toxic Sword Lesbians game!
Defy the Gods
another snippet of prep from my Defy the Gods adventure! I'll be truncating some of the collaborating worldbuilding of the City and World Forces so that the players can still make some decisions, but it is more tightly focused from the beginning so we can get to the drama faster.
Right now the main two deities are Ereshkigal and Inanna, but I will let the players expand on that in play too.
I really need to re-read the Epic of Gilgamesh on my flight this Sunday.
Thankfully the prep is super similar to Thirsty Sword Lesbians. I'm more excited than nervous to run it though I'm sure I will get nervous again!
The last dice roll I made for the three-session Defy the Gods campaign that I was so happy to get to play.
The left hand dice is purple-gold-green-blue foil and resin. The right one is white runes painted over green-gold-orange-blue-red foil and feels a bit heavier but is also resin. They both make satisfying clacky noises!
I originally bought the left hand dice to remember getting to play an earnest and troubled druid named Bran for a couple of sessions, and then using them as as an NPC and PC in Thirty Sword Lesbians later on. The colors represent their deity, their eyes and their magic.
The right hand dice originally was meant to remember the bumbling and twinky Ged, who I got to play as a fake wizard in a one shot, and then used as an NPC as well later on. The colors and runes represent their magic. Later I also did a challenge in January 2025 to make a character a day in a different ttrpg systems / settings, and made most of them Ged’s extended family (including all of his clones/homunculi lol)
Addiran, my Vessel character for Defy the Gods, had ethereal, strange magic that made people see unrealized wishes and bitter regrets, and I felt Ged’s d6 would do for that sort of ethereal vibe. Addiran also wears colorful clothing from her former lifestyle as an acolyte of the river god Bao, and is earnest and devoted, so I reached for Bran’s d6 for the other die.
After the campaign was over, I felt some post-campaign blues and looked for a way to remember Addiran’s character fondly. I ordered a blind bag of four random six sided dice, because Addiran is in love with the goddess of hopeless wishes. I also added an interestingly shaped lapiz lazuli and rune themed resin dice, because I think the colors really fit, the oblong shape looks ancient in a geometric way, and the runes look a bit like cuneiform. I’m excited to see them when they come in and find out what random dice I’ll get!
I rolled not so great to fight a few times, each playbook in Defy the Gods has a unique fighting move. Addiran called upon her goddess to aid her in fighting a skeletal fish, giant Underworld spiders, and corrupt city guards.
Addiran also went into Crisis twice! This means she received Wounds (from my own bad rolls, from friendly fire, from the cost of doing her own goddess’s magic, and from melee with enemies) to all of her Epithets. Her goddess abandoned her, showed disproval and even expressed jealousy of Addiran’s and her friends’ successes. It also meant Addiran changed two out of three Epithets before the game was over.
The Miracles were also really cool. The most thrilling moment was when I realized there was a move to actually change the timeline! Addiran’s friend was in major trouble as a monster assassin bug from the Underworld was attacking, and it wasn’t going well. Addiran called on her goddess to make that bug never even rise up in the first place - but we all remembered that it once had, and Addiran’s friend still was impacted by the experience. The player chose to keep some effects of the attack but not others.
Defy the Gods was a super fun experience. I want to run it in May and I already am jotting down some adventure ideas. I highly recommend this game.

The Troubadour is a really fun Thirsty Sword Lesbians playbook but also sometimes even music can’t help you avoid confronting the Toxic Power 😆
