Apollo 20: The Secret Mission to the Moon to Salvage an Ancient Alien Spacecraft

Apollo 20 was an internet hoax about alien life found on the moon. The story began in 2007 when YouTube videos by a user named retiredafb. The user claimed to be a former astronaut living in Rawanda and claimed that in 1976 the US and USSR made a joint mission to the moon to look for aliens. The videos showed photos of a ruined city and spacecraft, along with the former astronaut walking on the moon. The most well known image associated with the hoax is the body of a female alien. The alien is nicknamed Mona Lisa by the internet and is allegedly hibernating. The channel started posting on April 1st 2007 and continued for a while after due to multiple people running the channel. Although Apollo 20 is a hoax it took its name from a NASA mission that never flew due to a lack of funding.

I started this well over a year ago and never got around to finishing it until now... A few years ago there was a series of videos on Youtube supposedly uploaded by a former astronaut who was part of a secret Apollo 20 lunar mission. They showed an ancient meteor-worn spaceship crashed on the moon, a strange lunar city in ruins, and a hibernating alien woman being examined. The videos were very realistic looking and fooled a lot of people, but it turned out to be an art project by Thierry Speth. Apollo 20 is one of my favorite "art hoaxes" along with Genpets. This is an illustration I did of the alien woman (she was nicknamed 'Mona Lisa') in front of the alien city before it turned to ruins. The city was greyscale in the videos, but I decided to give it some color. The alien's spacesuit was somewhat inspired by the spacesuits in the comic book series Yoko Tsuno.
