Lyra (playing Aphil): I run over to stand between Bri and Arauthator. “Grovel!” I cast command.
DM: He rolls a 1 on his saving throw.
Lyra: Yes!
DM: He uses one of his legendary saves to automatically pass it.
Lyra: Wait, what? Bullshit! How many does he get?
DM: *smiles*
Party recap:
Having just defeated the white dragon Arauthator, the party raided his treasure-studded ice lair. During this time they also fought off a swarm of the dead dragon’s vengeful kobold servants, helped the wizard Makath pack up her belongings, and informed the enthralled villagers of Oyaviggaton that they were finally free of the dragon’s watch. A great celebration ensued, and the party finally made their way back to the ship of Captain Lerustah to begin the voyage south.
Aphil (half-elf druid): I turn to Bone Carver and speak carefully in Druidic. “We will take care of the current dragon problem. Do we have an agreement?”
DM: She takes a deep breath. “Okay. I’ll show you the way in.”
Aphil: Okay, the deal’s made. By ‘current dragon problem’ I was referring to the dragon cult trying to resurrect Tiamat. This way I won’t be breaking an oath to anyone if we can’t kill Arauthator.
DM: Aren’t you supposed to be lawful good?
Aphil: *uncomfortable* I’m a fey creature. All about the wording.
Aphil (half-elf druid): The dragon is defeated. There’s quite a lot of treasure-
DM: Bone Carver says, “We just want to leave and be far from here.”
Aphil: We would be very grateful if you could help us dig it out.
DM: Make a Persuasion check.
Aphil: 10.
DM: She smiles, not unkindly. “We’ll leave you our ice tools.”
DM: So, rewinding slightly from where we ended last session: Your eldritch blast hits Arauthator, surrounding his body with a violet nimbus. He gives a despairing wail and you see his eyes roll back. You know he is dead.
Tati (playing Cressida): I would gasp and do the whole bubble thing, but I can breathe water.
DM: His body sinks into the depths of the watery tunnel. You may now turn and revive the party in the order you did previously, as nothing is different in terms of actions used.
Tati: Hey Sett, you failed two death saves right? What would your next one have been?
Hamish (playing Sett): *rolls* ...I would have died.
DM: You’ve landed on an ice-shelf jutting out from the wall. The cavern is... bigger than our battle mat. In the center is a smaller ice shelf, upon which the white dragon Arauthator is lying.
Lyra (playing Aphil): Has he noticed us?
DM: You can’t tell.
Lyra: Let’s make Stealth checks.
Marijn (playing Bri): I fail.
DM: Roll initiative, please.
Marijn: Oops!
Hamish (playing Sett): Is he coming for us?
DM: He still hasn’t moved, but you can see he’s breathing.
Lyra: Still breathing, guys. We have to stop that.
Party recap:
The party entered the lair of the dragon Arauthator and battled him, almost all dying in the process. It seemed that Cressida’s final eldritch blast had failed to connect, but a revisit to the rulebook may reveal that to be an error...
DM: You learn that the dragon Arauthator’s iceberg home serves mainly as a place to meet with his mate, Arveiaturace.
Tati (playing Cressida): Are they gay?
DM: She’s known as the ‘Great White Wyrm’.
Tati: Disappointing. Is she trans?
DM: She used to serve a wizard, and hasn’t accepted his death. His body is still strapped into a saddle on her back and she talks to him as if he were still alive.
Andy (playing Ginquee): ...Is she mentally well?
Tati: You mean aside from that?
