Just like me fr
Seeing these two again made me so happy, to see them grown up even if it was a parallel universe
Ok so I know everyone has already said that Isha is the perfect combo of Powder, Milo and Claggor (face, hair, goggles) but what I haven't seen anyone else mention is the fact that on top of all this, when Vi sees her, she is staring up at an enforcer with the same burning hatred Vi herself used to possess. In that moment Vi is seeing not just her old family, but her old self.
Arcane (season one) as vines
My thoughts on Arcane’s Tea Party scene
1- "Milo" and "Claggor"
Jinx has positioned the models of them so they can watch the whole proceedings. On the one hand, they almost feel like part of a jury, silently taking in Jinx's crimes in help Vi reach her decision. On the other hand, they are the evidence, the mark of her guilt, her victims. In both cases, they are condemning her, those voices in Jinx's head that refuse to shut up.
2- The snack (Caitlyn)
The absolute horror of watching Jinx carry out the silver platter, knowing she visited Caitlyn at the end of the previous episode, and then her delivery of "I made her a snack." The first time I watched it, I was fully prepared to see Caitlyn's head under that thing, but the cupcake reveal was brilliant. And somehow even creepier? We know what Jinx is capable of in her current mental state, and she's basically delivering a threat while cracking such a dark joke.
And poor Caitlyn. She visibly flinches every time Jinx comes close to her. But still, even when she has the shot, she hesitates. She knows how much Jinx means to Vi, and can't bring herself to cause Vi more pain.
3- Vi
She so desperately wants to fix everything and save the people she cares about. Between Caitlyn and Jinx, she's trying to work things out, even though Jinx is making it painfully clear that Vi is only allowed to have one of them. The whole time, Vi is fighting to stay true to her promise- that nothing will change the fact that she and Jinx are sisters. But at the same time, she's being forced to reconcile this changed, broken version of Powder, and all the pain she causes. Can you still love someone if all they do is hurt people?
4- Silco
His love for Jinx really shows here. Maybe he is trying to keep her to himself, but I also think he genuinely believes that Vi doesn't love her sister. He knows what happened in his relationship with Vander. Of course Vi will turn on Jinx, that's what Silco has learned to expect of the world and the people he once cared about.
Silco defends her even when she's threatening to take his life, tells her she's perfect when she shoots him, promises that he would've given up his dream for Zaun to protect her... But also, it's only after his death that Jinx's breakdowns start to ease up. She no longer has to constantly combat his lies and abuse and is finally abandoned to make decisions for herself.
5- Jinx
Jinx starts off the whole tea party by telling Vi it's her choice. Caitlyn or Silco. Powder or Jinx. But in the end, Jinx is the one who makes the decision for herself. She chooses her identity, she kills Silco, she makes her grand statement against Piltover's council.
6- The two chairs
Powder's chair feels like something from a dollhouse. The heart clumsily carved into the back, the crayons and rabbit. But of course, the bombs are still there. Maybe there's glitter inside, maybe something deadlier. Either way, Powder isn't purely innocent and docile.
And then there's Jinx's chair. A spindly throne with crooked feathers sticking out of the sides like fallen angel wings. The crow has become her symbol, a mark of her "unluckiness," the fact that she is a jinx on every relationship, a curse on any person she loves and who dares to love her in return. The back of the chair looks like bars on a prison, sealing her into this new identity. And that's the chair that she chooses for herself, because the Powder who used to exist is gone now.
Day one of watching Arcane. I've decided to cave in and see what all the fuss is about. Bear in mind, I am also keeping up with Andor (which comes out every Thursday), so updates will not be consistent.
I will edit this post with my reaction to the first few episodes. Wish me luck. 👍👍
