This is the keyframe I started from our spring term 2022 mentorship with @armand_serrano we got 14 awesome awesome prompts to choose from. And just to get out of my comfortzone I chose "the mouse duo getting caught stealing rations in WW1 by a British soldier." (I never had even drawn a gun or a helmet before hahaha) In this mentorship the most important takeaway was that no design gets left behind. No single lines to indicatie anything, give everything form front to back, no shortcuts. We got shown such amazing art from thenillustration golden age for storytelling inspiration and I got the most beautiful paintover on this one as well. And these were just the first three weeks of the 8-9 weeks. And then I went for the extra test to go for the more appropriate weather😅🤣 . . . . #mentorship #armand #armandserrano #digitalart #photoshopart #photoshop #ww1 #ww1rations #soldier #soldiers #ww1soldier #mice #mouseduo #keyframe #keyframes #keyframeillustration #visdevart #visdevartist #visualdevelopment #conceptart #storytelling #lighting (bij Amsterdam, Netherlands) https://www.instagram.com/p/CjY8obBqT0e/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

THE ALIEN BAR: STEP BY STEP PROCESS
I posted this old piece on my Facebook page yesterday (https://www.facebook.com/armandserrano.artist). For those who asked about my process especially in between value and final color, I have several ways on how to get to the final product depending on style, complexity, schedule… and my mood. Here’s one systematic process that’s effective for me especially when under tight schedule. Sketching obviously establishes staging and perspective. Next is values for clarity and readability of shapes through consistency in lighting. Then lastly color temperatures and saturation. This is a tricky piece because there’s a number of characters and details. They come in different geometric shapes and sizes. And they’re alien therefore audience are unfamiliar with their appearance. The goal is for each one to read well and could easily end up very confusing. By controlled use of values, you can group the secondary characters and patterns, and focus on the the main character of the story. Remember, values is the backbone. Even if you have clear staging, solid perspective, and appealing color pallet, but if you’re values doesn’t work, it’s not gonna work. Hope these help and happy Wednesday everyone!

This is a drawover I did on a 3D set up. I had to supply architectural details needed to make sense out of 3D geometry.
