Yall this has taken me forever and I’m still not fully satisfied with it but I don’t see myself working on it any longer bc I wanna get to other things, plus I’m getting back into coloring so ik it looks different (prolly shouldn’t have taken a break from coloring oop) anyways this is just more of my Armin Crimson King AU with details and stuff.
At some point I thought I drew Armin’s eyes too “narrowed”(?)/tired bc for some reason he looked like Levi bc of the dark eye circles but I figured it’s just the tired look in his face that made him look like that and I thought it really got it across that Armin rly does not sleep in this.
I made some headcanons in my head that sometimes Armin and Ymir will sleep together bc the trauma and things they went through before they overthrew Marley was too much to handle and they find solace and comfort in each other. However I did not have space to actually draw that more clearly, only the little bit of them here all bloody and in cell (ik it doesn’t look like it but pretend they’re in a cell lmao). I rly tried to stay true to how armin looks like but his nose is so hard to draw ngl. I also planned on having the bruised armin be more skinny and malnourished looking but switched it out to have King Armin be that way a bit instead, I feel it makes more visual sense that he looks like he’s recovering from something bc it would make sense with context.
Btw I don’t think I ever mentioned it but Armin in this is a Tybur that Bert and Reiner bring back with them along with Ymir to the mainland. This is also why he is able to maintain his hold on the throne and have such consistent support for his and Reiner’s Rule. My earlier art has Armin with long hair but this is before he grows it out. I want to give the impression that Armin takes on a more “handsome” and masculine look in the early years of his reign before he starts to become more feminine looking overtime. Mainly to keep up with his image in the kingdom and appearances to intimidate neighboring countries. Though Reiner seems to have them covered in that department.
The relationships in this au are also very complicated and ambiguous bc I feel like that plays well into their psyche. Bert may or may not have developed something for Armin along the way. Armin may or may not be using Bert for his own reasons and twisted comfort he gets from his affections with the knowledge he has of their previous lives (will explain this later bc it will be part of the plot but won’t reveal too much bc there’s a solid plot point that is involved that instigates the whole story, but Armin is the only one that has any recollection of their lives. He sort of experiences a time regression?? Some of the other characters regain memories of their previous life as well but they’re not enough to piece together what they mean or what happened)
Ymir and Armin may or may not have shared a kiss or two in desperate moments. Reiner hates Armin and Armin hates Reiner but Reiner’s other personality adores him and Armin knows it so he exploits that about him. Very messy lol. Not a love triangle or a square but a squiggle? This story also heavily involves the warriors and Zeke but I haven’t gotten to that yet. I have an art that’s been cooking for a solid yr now for that😭
Other than that, Ymir and Armin are intially regarded as prisoners of war/spoils and are tortured for a solid year before their planned Coúp. They would’ve died if Armin did not have the knowledge of the main land and managed to convince the warriors and the Tybur family to turn against Marley. But yeah…..I’m a certified yapper.🗣️🗣️🗣️
It was one of those more complicated questions he always had at the back of his mind whenever he was faced with death, whether it be the close calls he had or witnessing his comrades get annihilated by the titans in his cadet days. Even after the paths were revealed, he still had the grim and peculiar question hanging over his head. Did the afterlife exist? Any form of it, didn’t matter what kind. Was reincarnation just one of those things that humanity clung to out of their own fear of death? Or was there some credibility to those accounts and stories, fables really…..Armin thought he knew most of what there was to the outside world after he was faced with the dark reality of having to intentionally murder innocents by the harbor. The paths were eradicated and his dreams crushed in the midst of his fight against the new world’s king, or should he just refer to him as Eren? Did it really matter? He didn’t give a shit anymore, because he’s dead. Turns out dying wasn’t all that it cracked out to be.
Hell? He expected that much. Heaven? Not for him, too much blood on his hands for any kind of god to allow. Rebirth? He wanted to laugh at the mere thought of it. But reincarnation? Time traveling? A turn of the universe’s clock? That was the best he could describe it. At least for now. With how crazy and unbelievable things became in his final year, he could give reviving? reincarnating? being thrown back in time? a pass. What did not make sense, was how he ended up in a completely different body from his own. Now, that. THAT….was where things got complicated.

I had this idea for a sick armin au like yrs ago and was gonna fully write it as a fic but never had time to and don’t now either so I have accepted that most of my writing ideas I’ll probably just draw instead into like mini comics or doodles. I also debated for the longest time on whether Levi should be a nurse or surgeon but I felt it would make more sense if he was Armin’s nurse instead of surgeon because of how I planned out the story and they will be close and Armin will miss him when he suddenly disappears.
I know half of this doesn’t make sense because the characters look different than the time the younger characters seem to be based in, so don’t pay attention to that, this was just a chart for me to get an idea of planning. 🗣️Also yes they will have wierd, cool, and fuckass haircuts because why not?!?!🗣️
I am aware that most of this will not make sense but I’m curious to know any thoughts on this. Since this is built around a modern hospital setting expect half of the crew to be afflicted with something especially when it comes to those close to Armin (excluding Eren and Mikasa). I haven’t included any other side characters yet but this is just his close network. Ik Ymir and Armin’s line is up for debate right now but do know that she and Armin will be room neighbors at some point in the story when she comes in. I don’t wanna give away too much but it is related to why her and Historia’s line is half friendship and half enemies.

Partial plot: Armin is the first to exhibit signs of what seems to be an unusual chronic disease (dawg he’s just fighting for his life so idk if chronic would really describe that but that’s the only word I can think of) that keeps him from living a normal life and he eventually ends up in custody of the hospital as there is no one left to take care of him and his health problems are far too extreme and fragile for him to be put under the care of another. Will Armin have to live like this forever or will he find a way to make himself better? After all what good could doctors be if his conditions just seem to get worse after each treatment. Is it all genetic or is there something more to his sickness? Something malicious and unsuspecting? Something right in front of him? Anyways ignore my cringe summary.

I rly had fun drawing Reiner but he was also a pain bc I had to keep reworking his face because of how complex it is, his facial structure is so out of my usual range. Also like why was this just hard to draw overall?!? Like Armins hair had maybe four hours in total of me working on, I had to keep reshaping the top and planning out where different shades would go. This was in my drafts for maybe like two months (prolly longer) before I went back to it to actually try and finish it. Bert becomes a bit delulu in this AU and Reiner’s delusional ass ain’t helping. Annie is just minding her business but is now glad she doesn’t have to deal with Bert being awkward around her bc now he has a new crush/hyperfixation.
The actual context/idea behind this is Armin asking Bertolt a lot of personal questions(like what’s his birthday bc then he can use that info against him in the future)but I thought it’d be funnier to just have his text instead of the block of whatever I wrote. Bertolt misinterpreted it as Armin taking an interest in him and that’s that.💀🗿
Anywayssssss, Armin is an MP in this-😨👀🤭he basically is undercover and avoids being in the Survey Corps. He couldn’t even be there if he tried (plot reasons I will not spoil yet) and he already spent enough time there with Historia’s body (this is a secret don’t remember this detail). Marco is alive, Armin befriends Marlo/Hitch, is a social butterfly basically and attempts to befriend Annie as well (I have an art of that here but you’ll have to dig around to find it).
Nile sort of views him as a kid bc of his frail body (guys this is a detail in the plot oop) but also sees his potential so he tries to push Armin into the Survey Corps business bc of how much he reminds him of Erwin, in hopes of Erwin taking him under his wing to be a potential successor(Armin is a liability in the MPs lmao😭he does not want him around bc he’s fixing everything)
Erwin doesn’t rly pay mind to it or care that much but Levi is so suspect of him and Bert and Reiner keep their eyebrows raised bc who is this babe?!?but also why is he out here uncovering titan secrets so casually?!??

Wanted to do more sketches of this au but had a hard time trying to put together outfits. Also finally drew Ymir and Armin cuddling. More Bert. Some Pieck? I added her in, originally I had a sketch of Armin in her spot but didn’t like the way it turned out.
Decided to draw her being cute bc I want her FREED from the clutches of titan service in this, like that shit rly fucking her up physically and took a toll on her body. Plus, having her away from battle and developing a spot by Armin benefits him in the long run. Won’t say too much on that but aside from the fact that he hated finding out about her body deteriorating bc of her titan form, he tries hard to form relationships with the warriors. It’s especially difficult with Porco and Zeke, but he quickly noticed that Pieck doesn’t share the same reservations they do towards him so he runs with it and they eventually become decent acquaintances. Also, I want her to explore herself beyond being a weapon of war for Marley. She gets to experience her femininity without bounds after she’s given a temporary retirement from Armin/the Tybur family.
Side note with Ymir: her and Armin cling/vibe onto each other so much in this, so much so that there’s speculation that they were/are a thing amongst the nobles and attendants that work within the palace. Lmao. It’s purely platonic but sometimes Ymir sees Historia in him when she moves too fast or gets too drunk??? They’ve for sure kissed once or twice in this lmao. The feeling quickly wears off though bc Armin developed a somewhat abrasive personality early on, which makes it hard for her to rly project Historia onto him. Though, she adores him the way he is, she can’t help but hold him a little tighter when she can’t see his face.
When it comes to Reiner, things get complicated with him for Armin. He gets so stuck on the version of him that betrayed him and their friends in their previous life, but he also understands that this Reiner and the old one aren’t the same, nor can he hold onto the actions of the older version against him. It’s weird rly. He didn’t hate the past version, but the longer they went without contact in their last life before becoming allies once again, he loathed him for being passive. Something which he himself struggled with and eventually got rid of in his(Armin’s) present self. Which is why he comes across as spiteful, and a bit cruel at times, when his patience is being tested. Most of the crew don’t mind it, since they have similar attitudes but Bertolt seemed to have the most difficulty adjusting to it.
The Tyburs are sort of in the background of this au but Armin puts in the work early on to be pretty close with Lara. Willy is more of like a weird supportive uncle towards Armin and the rest of the Tyburs. He is doting towards him, since he IS the king and the only one among them within a good age range to carry on the family reputation. Lara is sort of kept close to Armin but her identity is kept under wraps for their protection. Everyone is basically convinced that Armin actually has the Warhammer for quite some time, the only ones who know he doesn’t are either enemies or people Armin considers a threat(side eyeing Zeke rn bc his ass is so uncooperative and sus👀🙄), which helps them be intimidated by him since he’s so capable without even having the power of the titans himself.
lol Zeke is Armin’s biggest opp, until he ISN’T👀😔. It’s an important plot point but I won’t say anything bc there’s a lot to it lowkey. But anyways. Zeke hates him early on but eventually views him as a little brother??!? Who knows.
Other than all that info, Armin rly can’t afford to be gentle or calm like he used to be since people undermine him when he is. That and it was practically beat out of him within the year and a half that him and Ymir were tortured. So in instances when he is closer to his old self, it surprises those who witness it and it captivates Reiner’s personalities(yes his fuckass other self is making an appearance in this too😔😭🗿) how Armin is able to persevere.
I also do not know or remember where I was going with the Eremin in this lmao😭it was a plot point but so much has changed in my head for this au.

In the second I tried drawing a later moment where Erwin mentally berates himself for having hopes of being able to adopt Armin until Miché came out of nowhere claiming to be his family. Oop. It’s angst lmao, Erwin was rly ready to become a parent to him.
The last one is supposed to be a picture/photograph of younger Armin showing off his pet hermit crab with the torso of a nurse standing behind/next to him, the cutoff is on purpose and supposed to be a slow reveal later on that the nurse in the picture was Levi. I actually can’t remember whose hand is holding the picture but my safest guess is Miché.
