Drabble prompt: Seth & Perihelion, first time doing something new
« Are you sure it's going to work? »
"I'm sure," Seth says reassuringly. « And I'll still be me? »
"Of course you will, sweetheart."
« Okay, » it says finally, and downloads into its first drone iteration.
3C Bones or 1F Jim?
hey at least his shirt's not ripped yet!
floating?? give us some floating please 👀
Leonard is floating, slowly floating back into his body, slowly floating back to his senses. The last thing he remembers is going on an away mission with Jim, beaming down onto a planet and then everything goes black.
First off he registers a beeping nearby and voices that seem far away. His brain is firing thoughts his way, pushing him nearer to the surface of clarity.
Jim, he doesn’t know where Jim is, he doesn’t remember what happened. Jim could be hurt and Leonard’s just lying here not helping. This thought process brings him back to consciousness, the need to help Jim has always made him go above and beyond.
Peering his eyes open he’s met with the bright light of a hospital? No medbay, he’s in medbay. But he has nothing to do in a damn bed, he should be running this place, he’s the freaking CMO.
Drabble prompt: MB & Amena, snowball fight
A sudden projectile made of coagulated precipitation struck the back of my head, startling me and knocking several of my drones out of alignment. I twisted, anticipating further onslaught, and was greeted with Amena laughing, her hands on her knees.
Ah.
I see.
She will soon come to regret challenging someone who is far more efficient at combat than she.
“You think you have to be dramatic? I’m drugging you and dragging you into space with me on risk of a court martial.”
For AO3 wrapped: 3, 12, 20?
3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)? It's too hard to pick! But I'm going to go with gently gently or shipping lanes. gently gently because it really scratched the itch I had, and shipping lanes because I let myself get weird with it and had a blast. Honorable mention to toaster too, cause I like an ART & TargetControlSystem hateship <3
12. How many WIP’s do you have in your docs for next year?
Solid State (because I know I'm going to still be updating it next year)
A finished short story about Aphelion I need to both edit and wait until a certain point in Solid State to post.
Carrier Signal's meta compilation I'm waiting til I'm all done with Solid State to finish up and post.
Moistbuddy Exchange Gift (deadline Jan 20)
New Years Gift Exchange Gift (deadline Jan 20)
That's all my actual current WIPs but I'm sure I'll end up with half a dozen more that are either more short stories attached to Carrier Signal or fun little self challenge projects like Recalibrating/Recalculating.
20. Which work of yours have you reread the most?
Sometimes when someone leaves a really thoughtful comment I go back an re-read the story in question just to see it with that new mental picture <3 It's probably either gently gently or thesis statement.
What's your favourite recent memory?
In college, I made a friend group consisting of eight people, myself and seven others. Liz, one of them, got married a few weeks ago at a country club, and those of us who were able came to the wedding.
My mom was driving me there, and Google Maps was slightly unclear as to how we were supposed to get onto the grounds of the building, which seemed completely fenced off. As we were driving around one side, my mom looked out her window and said, isn't that Sarah? Yes, Sarah, one of my friends my mom has briefly met, was walking along the fenced side also trying to find an entrance. Regrettably we were on the other side of the road, so we couldn't pick her up.
The entrance turns out not to be on the side we were headed to, so we drive around--and there Sarah is again, this time headed for the open gate that seems like it's an entrance. (By this point I had texted her but she hadn't seen it.) The gate opens onto a bunch of paths through the golf course part of the grounds and we see people driving around on golf carts, and Sarah walks onto the path.
It takes us a few more minutes to find an entrance we can drive into, except now, looking all around the grounds, there is no sign of Sarah, which is deeply confusing. My mom asks me if I think maybe someone picked her up on a golf cart and drove her to the part of the grounds with the venue. No, I say, surely not.
Eventually we find the venue and my mom drops me off, and I walk in and there's no one I know, but I at least establish everyone is here for Liz and Brian's wedding. In a few minutes I look across the room and see Sarah and my old roommate Debbie standing together and I rush over to them and hug them. I tell Sarah we saw her walking and joke my mom wondered if she got picked up in a golf cart. WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT FUCKING HAPPENED. Some kind golfer gentleman saw Sarah wandering the path clearly lost and told her kindly she couldn't be on that path and offered her a ride to the venue part of the grounds in his cart. The truest chivalry of our age.
The moral of this story is don't dismiss your mother's wild theories offhand.
