being arospec or aspec is trying so hard to find a balance between dismissing both amatonormativity and heteronormativity at the same time, because yeah, it’s somewhat heteronormative to see two characters in a show that are both men kiss and go “they’re just brothers, sometimes family kiss on the lips! they’re just friends! they must be roommates!”, but on the other hand, maybe they are just friends.
maybe kissing doesn’t have to be so inherently romantic. sure, there’s a strong possibility that they’re gay together, but that possibly is never 100% until it’s actually confirmed.
maybe the way they feel about eachother can’t be defined by any word in any language, they just exist in the spaces between, and that’s just as good as romantic love.
maybe, everyone is allowed to have their own idea of what these two fictional characters’ relationship is, and maybe we don’t have to fight about it, maybe we should just live and let live.
oh and by the way, a good way to check for both amatonormativity and heteronormativity at once is to ask “if one of these characters were the opposite gender, would they be shipped with absolute conviction?” and then follow up with “why exactly would that be the answer?”
