The Choice to Live Under My Real Name
I changed my names.
I changed my form.
And now, quietly—I've returned to who I truly am.
In this age, showing your true self isn’t easy.
Many live behind borrowed names and shifting faces.
I was one of them—
known for years as “Sauna Neko.”
I started drawing five years ago,
using the shape of a cat to express feelings I couldn’t put into words.
Messy hair between the ears, drooping ears, a flicking tail, trembling speech bubbles—
that cat was a mirror of my unstable heart.
Eventually, the cat became a girl.
Then, slowly, she turned into a real cat again—
a quiet presence beside me.
My online icons changed along with me:
First, I was a cat.
Then, a girl.
And now, it’s a sleeping version of myself,
with a small cat beside me—who is also me.
At the beginning of 2025, I made a decision.
To live through drawing.
To live under my real name.
The visible “form” of my being,
and the invisible “presence” I had never been able to express in words or lines—
have finally come together, quietly, as one.
In a world that often feels like a virtual reality,
I’ve chosen to live as something real.
“When I photograph, I love the whole world, because my truth cannot be divided: it’s either whole, o da Barbara Bonanno BNNRRB Tramite Flickr: “This self-portrait was taken just after waking up, in the soft play of light and shadow. It’s a statement of existence and authenticity — no accusations, no filters, just the whole truth as I see it. Because when I photograph, I embrace the world in its entirety.”
The beauty of stippling and pointillism has become a deep passion for me. Every line drawn, every point made is an exploration into the depths of my creative soul. The inspiration that I draw from wildlife and animals across Scotland is truly humbling.
The intricate detail in the feathers of birds, the way the sunlight dances off the fur of the red deer, the boldness of the Highland cow against the sweeping landscape of greenery--all these components work together to evoke emotion and spark creativity within me.
My artworks are an ode to nature and its wild inhabitants. Each stroke of the pen is an attempt to recreate the beauty of the natural world around me. In turn, this approach allows me to explore and connect with my own creative spirit.
The soft grayscale of stippling art gives me a gentle yet powerful way to express myself. I love playing with light and shadow on the page, manipulating them to create the illusion of movement or stillness. Pointillism is like painting with pixels; each dot carries its own unique weight, allowing me to build up an image with just a few deliberate strokes.
Though my art may look delicate and fragile, my process is strong and deliberate. Through my work, I strive to capture the motion and emotion of wildlife and nature and share it with others. Stippling and pointillism offer me a window into exploring my creative identity and the wonders of the Scottish land.
Artist Statement 3
For our Supercut project, I returned to my usual anime theme. This time around I used opening clips from the most recent season of My Hero Academia combined with a timeless tune from Shrek. I’ve really loved working with anime and animation based videos for these last few projects because I feel like they’re extra dynamic. The color pallets are very bright and explosive, leading to fun ways to bend the video to fit audio.

I believe in our civilization. I believe in progress. I believe in artificial intelligence. I believe in the infinite human mind, and infinite human possibilities. I believe in love. I believe in beauty. I believe in justice. I believe in helping others. I believe in creative forces within everyone of us 👩🎨 especially I believe in creative forces amongst chimpanzees, zebras, elephants, dolphins and crabs. I believe in a great future of humanity where there will be less diseases, better free education, and food at least twice a day for every human being. I believe fathers and mothers will love their children and cherish them as their own future. I believe every child will have an opportunity to discover his/her talent and develop that special “born with” intuition into practical skills to the limits of his/hers abilities. I don’t believe in hell and I don’t believe in evil. I recognize unfortunate circumstances and accidents - Andrey Bogoslowsky 7-2021. My artist statement as a Venn diagram. We all want things we can't have We are all worried about the future We all regret those stupid things we said and did in college. I'm using the same tools that advertising uses to make us buy things. Instead if manipulating, I want to communicate. Instead of telling people what they lack I want to show what we share.
