I am feeling better! Other than minor scar tissue pinching (which is to be expected, because I have scar tissue on top of scar tissue now), I feel really good! Kind of amazing how quickly the body can heal itself, even after major organ removal. Like, it's been only two months! And I'm back to normal! Wild!!!!

I was rereading your phenomenal metadata (as one does) after rewatching parts of S4 and S5 last night and a line from your thoughts on 5x04 popped out at me. You wrote, "Chim has to go find Maddie, he absolutely has to," and between that and what strongly feels like foreshadowing, Eddie talking about how Maddie needed to lean on Chim and not be the strong one for a while... What are your thoughts about the foreshadowing there, about the idea that Buck's actions will parallel Chim's, that he'll be the one who understands what's going on with Eddie, that he'll need to go find Eddie, or chase after him? Either physically or emotionally- and by physically I mean more like go across town, Eddie doesn't seem likely to flee the state- although wouldn't that be rock bottom for him, somehow convincing himself the only thing to do is go back to El Paso? ::Shudder::

Oh wow, that's such a good question. I think a part of why Chim had to go to Maddie is because she was in such a low place, depression is something that fully distorts people's view of themselves, the world and their place in it. Maddie therefore might not be able to see that she still has a place with him, that she didn't harm their daughter or destroy their relationship. Even as she starts to pick herself back up, see she can get better and she can make it out of that dark place, it's not an automatic leap that others will see and understand what she went through and why she handled it the way she did. So I felt he needed to go in order to tell her that she still had him.

I'm asking myself now if Eddie is in quite as low of a place. He's def not seeing things quite clearly or he wouldn't have quit his job on what he assumed was what a kid told him... His, yeah, but still a kid. But is he at his lowest? I feel like he was struggling more in his street fighting arc, and I think a part of that is because that's when he felt like he didn't have Buck. Right now? Yeah, Eddie has left the 118 and doesn't have him as a partner, but he does still have Buck in his life. Eddie knows this, but... I think a part of the resolution might be realizing or getting to vocalize he needs Buck more in his life. I'm not sure he needs Buck to run after him for that. If I think about the end of the lawsuit fallout, it came with Buck returning to Eddie to be partners once again (when in a sense he never left, because he never wanted them to be separated). IDK if that's where the show will go and I'm always weary of raising expectations, but... it would be the most perfect parallel if indeed this next part of s5 will also parallel s3 in resolving things by having Eddie return to Buck to be partners once again (when in a sense he never left, because he never really wanted them to be separated).

popping out of the woodwork as a newbie to 911 to say hi! and that I hadn't paid attention to it until now but you are totally right that something is off about eddie's style/vibe in the scenes with ana! (i also agree that it was less so when he treated her burn in jinxed.) and I think even beyond the styling- he's missing his swagger when he's with her, it feels like? like, normally the man hits every single one of my hyper-competence kinks, ngl; he's quietly confident in the background because he knows his value and his skills and that shows. so maybe it's a lack of confidence in himself dating and the situation with chris and etc, and thus, less swagger? it would track with him being less off when he was treating ana's burn- he was in his element in that situation.

yeah, eddie does seem out of his element right now but that could always be blamed for him not having dated for awhile since he’s been married for shannon for a long time. and i completely agree with him losing his swagger when he’s around ana. it’s not even because he looks nervous, but everything just seems so force. their joking was cringy at best, the teacher kink definitely worse considering that she used to be his son’s teacher as well, then not realizing chris was gone because he was talking to ana? all of those signs seem bad tbh.
