The thing about Ashvatthaman being cursed to wander the earth for 3,000 years is that, when the story was first told, it was understood that most of those years had yet to happen: that though the events of the story took place centuries in the past, this guy still had another millennium or two to go.

Today, though, the Mahabharata has existed in some form for more than 2,000 years. Ashvatthaman may not have much time left if he wants to rehabilitate his image and start a podcast.
