I do not appreciate the social media ban.
I’m old enough that it doesn’t affect me, but unlike a lot of other people I still care about issues outside of my world.
Is the ban good in spirit? Yeah. But the execution is horrible. Making people give up their faces and IDs to stay online, and judging people by their content consumption. Stopping a means of connection between friends born a single year apart. Deleting accounts people have built for years. Isolating vulnerable kids—be they queer, neurodivergent, disabled, abused, disordered, lonely, anything—from finding community, help, or even something that might help them realise a danger they’re in.
This is a ban to protect kids, but I promise you this: social media is a lot better than you dipshits want to think it is.
You don’t want kids in groups you don’t like to have community. You don’t want a generation to arise who are understanding of people from all walks of life. You don’t want to make any effort to remove what actually harms kids from the internet so the digital and physical worlds are both safer, because that’s too much fucking effort—you could go sue Roblox for being paedo-lovers, delete content that incites violence and hatred, wipe CP and SA videos from existence. But you don’t. Because you don’t actually care.
You want the reputation, the title, the money. Not to fucking help kids.
