Alright question for you @theowritesfiction and for @juniperhillpatient if they see this. I just saw in your last post that you caught up on Wednesday season 2. I found my myself intrigued by the powers of the doctor fellow’s daughter the Avian. The ability to control birds with a thought. I know you’re not a fan of Worm but Wildbow, but this reminded me quite a lot of Taylor Hebert!
It also made me wonder, of various ATLA characters had similar abilities to the Avian, a psychic connection to specific animals of Genus of animal, what animals would they be?
Katara would be possibly be Marine creature. Perhaps Cephalopods or sharks? Or something else perhaps? But do you think, Azula, Zuko’s. Sokka’s, Ty Lee’s Mai’s, Toph’s, Aang’s or anyone else you can think
Oh, what animals the ATLA characters would have psychic connection to? That’s a fantastic question. 😊 I’ll reply by choosing real world animals instead of the silly/weird hybrids from ATLA world.
Yeah, Katara would definitely have a marine creature, something graceful, wholesome, the kind of animal everyone goes ‘Aww!’ at. I’m going to say a dolphin, because even though everyone loves dolphins, they can be very freaky and nasty, so I think that also fits Katara 😅
What sort of animal would Sokka the Wise get? Well, what animal represents wisdom better if not an owl. However, Sokka probably considers this psychic connection kind of BS, so over the years, he completely ignores it. Because of that, whenever he uses it, Sokka always gets the derpiest owl possible, like one that can’t fly straight and crashes into every tree.
In the Fire Nation, revealing a child’s psychic connection to an animal is a whole elaborate ceremony, especially for royal offspring. Zuko has been hyping himself up for years about the cool animal he’s going to get. Then the day of ceremony comes, the royal family gathers, the entire nation watches with bated breath… and Zuko establishes a psychic connection with a giant toad.
Everyone goes home disappointed and angry, while Azula brags to her brother about her awesome connection with Komodo dragons that she established three years prior because she’s a damn prodigy. Consider Zuko’s day ruined.
Lastly, I’ll just throw out some ideas for the other characters –
Toph: Armadillo. It digs and has a plate armor. Perfect for Toph 😁
Ty Lee: Sealion. Why? You’ll have to read my Azula’s Kitchen Nightmares story to understand that 😅
Mai: Praying mantis. This is too easy. Mai would definitely have something that most people find scary and revolting.
Aang: Penguin. Hey, it makes sense that Aang would get a bird, right? Nobody said it couldn’t be a flightless bird… and we know from the show that Aang vibes with penguins.
Yue: Arctic fox. No particular reason other than arctic foxes are incredibly cute and so is Yue, so there’s a connection 😅
Jet: honey badger. I literally did a search for the edgiest animal on earth, and most people agree that it’s a honey badger because honey badger don’t care.
