Brain thoughts moment (rambling so might be incoherent)
Since I got more into arthuriana and starting writing my own story pulling elements I like from the legends, medieval writing, other interpretations of the characters as well as grabbing things from other media I like I do wonder when we got so caught up on canon? Myself included, I love fandom spaces because people really take those characters they like and write a bunch of different stories revolving around them which is low key all Arthurian Legend is.
This is not to knock creators of these stories and characters, I have my own characters that I think of one way and know their stories but at the same time idm if people want to rewrite them (just don't go say "lol fixed it for you" to creators that's just rude).
I've also been back on my Fairy Tail bs and Mashima himself writes AUs into his story with different versions of the main characters.
I love Voltron, but I didn't like the story towards the end of VLD so I just float in the klance spaces.
There's so many stories, I just love telling stories whether it's with original characters or ones I've encountered already.
Why did some people's interpretations of Arthurian Legend become "definitive" when there's so many stories, what makes one writer more valid than another?
I just find all this so interesting, and this is also not to say there are some stories which aren't good lmao, bad/ problematic writing does exist and if I say another "gritty" retelling of King Arthur or Robin Hood that does nothing interesting I'll scream because low key we've done that so many times now omg 😭. I just think humans are cool and stories are super cool and I need to get better just enjoying aspects of these tales I like because it's not that serious.
I love to read and I love to write, and sometimes draw and I will be telling the stories I want to tell and appreciating the elements of stories or interpretations I like because there are infinite universes!!!
