All the times I (almost) - Deleted scene
DELETED SCENE FROM MY FIC (you can read the fic on AO3)
Fic summary (for context):
… In which Castiel confesses but he can’t bear the look of disbelief on Dean’s face (and dreads his answer too much) so he makes Dean forget.
Over and over again.
Here's a scene that I reeeeally loved, but I had to cut, for the greater good of the fic (mainly pacing reasons and the flow of the story). The scene features one of the many random times that Cas confessed to Dean.
******************************************
They’re sitting on a bench one morning. Reminds Cas of one of their first meetings together. The sun is shining bright and they’re waiting for Sam to come back from speaking with the suspect. The cover required him to go alone. Dean is eating a Charleston Chew.
“You should eat a salad once. Heard it would do you good.”
“Oh, great, now you, too,” Dean grumbles. “Cas, this thing works between us, because you know me.”
“So what’s this thing about salad!?? Man???” His voice is high-pitched, his facial expression comical.
Castiel laughs, sweetly, and he drops his glance to the ground. “I just care about your health, is all. I can keep fixing you, helping your internal organs with the nutriments they need to function properly, but it would be nice to see you try and take care of yourself for a change.”
“Yeah,” Dean helps himself with another bite, “not happenin’, pal.”
“Ah, I love you anyway,” Cas laughs, casually, without giving it a second thought.
The air shifts for a second, before Cas realizes Dean has stopped eating and is now looking at him. It takes Cas quite a few seconds to realize.
“You what?” His mouth’s half full with nougat, still visible cause he’s gaping, fully staring him into the eyes.
“Oh,” Castiel shifts in his seat from his relaxed position and turns towards Dean, “uh, I just meant this. That I hate candy bars, but I love you.”
“You hate candy bars,” Dean repeats, almost automatically, shock paralyzing his brain other than that little bit of information.
“Yes, Dean,” Cas takes the Charleston Chew before it falls off Dean’s hand, “and I love you.” He says that last part easily, like it’s nothing. Like it’s something that’s completely normal to say to your best friend.
Like he’s done it dozens of times before.
“You… hate candy bars,” Dean repeats, shock still overcoming him.
“It’s fine, Dean,” and Cas is already leaning towards him.
“What do you mean you hat—”
Sweet oblivion comes again, and Dean blinks his eyes. Confused.
Sees Cas with the candy in his hand.
