🌞 Happy Long Weekend! What a beaut of a weather so male sure you go out & soak it up. It's good for your soul (as well as your body) 😘 📗 T, a novel ✒️ Alan Fyfe 💊💊🍸 I knew from the start that this wasn't my cup of tea but I gave it a go anyway. I did finish as it was tolerable and I wanted to know the end; of there's a twist. Unfortunately for me, this was a rather weird and, I felt, stagnant plot. 💡 Book Review 📘 Hydra ✒️ Adriane Howell ⭐️⭐️⚡️ I guess this one just wasn't quite what I expected. I expected it to be more of a thriller with a bit of the "paranormal" thrown in but it's not a thriller at all. There's a bit of a suspense, I suppose, but it's more to do with the mental condition of the protagonist. In a way, the author has done very well conveying the thoughts and feelings of a protagonist who appeared to be utterly lost and imbalanced, teetering on the edge of a "normal" life as we know it. In between of the present perspective, there were transcripts describing mysterious events from the past. But they were so mysterious, I still can't get my head around it. I'm thinking it's a bit like the thylacine myth. I'm also not one for slapsticks nor black humour so while I can see where some things are meant to be humourous, I... just... cringed. Overall, Hydra is not really my cup of tea but I do like that intriguing cover. Just finished this book. What an entertaining and fun and clever read. Highly recommend. That first sentence is a killer (pun intended). "Everyone in my family has killed someone. Some of us, the high achievers, have killed more than once." Also this… “I looked around at the bookshelves, the crackling fire and the plush red leather chairs. ‘If we get out of here alive enough to sell our story, I’d say Hollywood would be pretty pissed if we didn’t use the library, don’t you think?’” While I’m happy HBO is making a limited series of it, I’m sad it most likely won’t be Aussie and set in The Snowy Mountains. 📖 Review The Good Captain ny Sean Ranbin 🐬🐬🐬 The world presented in The Good Captain is such a miserable one. While most scenes are in open seas, it is implied that the rest of the world isn’t in such a good condition either and yet, still… there aren’t enough people caring for the world. . The novel opens with a secret mission on land gone wrong; a lot of blood, a fast getaway, and a mysterious cargo. Then we meet all the crew of the ship. Each with their own love for the ocean and willingness to sacrifice all to protect her. There were natural threats and some of human variety but this crew’s belief in their purpose helped them overcome all obstacles. The mysterious cargo was an interesting one though I had my doubts as to the purpose it was revealed for still the twist at the end was a bit of a eye-roll for me; there just didn’t seem to be much of a muchness. . While I can appreciate the importance of the book’s message, I didn’t particularly love it. With so many characters and unknown factors, I just found it a little bit of a mess. I didn’t find it too hard to follow except for a certain character but I found the story didn’t quite flow as smooth as I’d like. Well, maybe it’s a reflective of the ocean they are travelling on? There are others who truly enjoyed this read and while it’s not quite for me, you might enjoy it more than I did. . 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲 (𝘯.) - emotional anguish or grief, typically caused by the loss or absence of someone loved. . This was February read for @rachaeljohnsbookclub which I only just finished because I didn't seem to get any bookclubs' books for Feb read last month! 😅 Let me just say that this wasn't one I'd have picked for myself... . The Beautiful Words by Vanessa McCausland . By the pains in my heart, I only wanted to rate this 2 stars... I don't like having my heart trampled all over like this. 😭 . By the words I read in my head, I wanted to rate this 4 stars... Such beautiful setting, neat structuring, very real characters, and that cleansing at the end. This book kept me up at night and not because I was reading but because I just can't stop thinking about it. This makes it a very good book, don't you think? Except that my thoughts distressed me and that's what kept me from sleeping. There are personal reasons for this but that's all I'm going to say about it. I'm off for a lighter happier read. .
