One Piece Chapter 1053 drops major twists and bombshells

Luffy, Law and Kid each get a new bounty of 3 billion for beating Kaido and Big Mom

Turns out Tenguyama Hitetsu was actually Kozuki Sukiyaki, Oden’s father and former shogun of Wano, who wasn’t killed by Orochi after getting usurped; and doesn’t plan on telling Momonosuke and Hiyori they still have one more living family member

Turns out that Pluton, one of the three Ancient Weapons, is on Wano; after being introduced all the way back in the Alabasta arc, with Crocodile ascertaining its location being a major catalyst to him starting the civil war in Alabasta and CP9 trying to acquire Pluton’s blueprints be a major catalyst of the Enies Lobby arc, it looks we’ll finally be seeing the World’s Worst Battleship after 20 years of buildup

Admiral Ryokugyu is finally no longer a silhouette and does the standard Worf Effect/DBZ Effect/Shounen Manga thing of establishing he’s a stronger threat to our heroes by owning the previous arc’s antagonists; decimating all the remaining Beast Pirates including King and Queen

And, of course, the reveal that Luffy and Buggy have taken Kaido and Big Mom’s places among the Yonko

Bonus twist: Robin not finding Sukiyaki’s kokeshi dolls cute (guess they’re not freaky enough for her tastes)

This was a really cute one I missed until the dub release. It’s extending off of Kiku reiterating how Tama’s powers work in Udon. So, the scene is cool for how it’s a diagenic flashback she’s narrating. Or maybe showing us what happened as she’s implied to be explaining the basics to Raizo.

What I love though is this cuteness with Tama! Running over to grab Kiku’s kimono and getting a lil reassuring tousle. The perspective is fun. The extra scene is nice and you get a little bonus Kiku fluff but it doesn’t add any real depth. I love it for this though. If you want to challenge prejudice, show trans women being maternal more than cute or cool. Wish we’d had more of Tama and Kiku, if there doesn’t end up being something extra out of Kiku’s odd ending it’ll be a missed opportunity to let her end up like Bellemere. Not the murdered by Fishmen part, you know what I mean.
