Things That Didn't Happened...
...But It'd Be Funny if They Did... #3
Eddie: *doing dishes*
Chris: Hey Dad, is Buck here?
Eddie: Yep. He's in the living room, why?
Chris: We're having 'Bake with a Parent' day at school for my Home Ec class next week. How weird do you think Buck will be if I ask him.
Eddie: *gives Chris a look*
Chris: Scale it. 1 - 10.
Eddie: *no hesitation* 372.
Christ: *contemplates* No, I'm still going to ask. I've been bragging about his Lavender Scones for months. Class will hate me if I don't follow through.
Eddie: Then by all means, have at it.
A few moments later...
Chris: *peaks into the kitchen* Buck's crying, might want to handle that.
Buck: *shouts from the living room* I'm not crying! I got something in my eye!
Wedding cake baker Buck who thinks that Tommy and the real groom or bride (could be Sal, or Lucy or an OC) are getting married because Tommy has been there at all the tastings and his opinion has mattered more than the other person’s. Tommy is just more invested in cake than the couple getting married (he’s the best man…maybe he only agreed to do it if he got full control of the cake) and he’s also smitten with Buck. Buck figures it out eventually…maybe even at the wedding…
I was tagged by @bidisasterevankinard @typicalopposite @jamieroyjamieroy and @30somethingautisticteacher for Sentence Sunday and only got around to it today!
I'm still working on Ground Support, but chapter 2 was getting too big, so I decided to split it into two and had to extend the first part a bit so it wouldn't be too short compared to the rest of the fic.
So I hereby offer you some early s1 fire family fluff. I hope you like it!
It's 10 AM on a Friday, and Buck's already trying out a new flavor in anticipation for a possible visit from Tommy; he's whipped some lemon frosting and is adding it to some Oreo flavored cupcakes. The bakery is emptied out after the morning rush and he's concentrated on making the perfect frosting dollop when the bell above the door jingles, and Buck looks up eagerly. It's not Tommy, after all, but he's far from disappointed.
"Smells like heaven in here", Hen says in wonder as she comes in, and Buck can't help but smile as she, Chimney and his dad approach the counter.
"Hey, you guys, long time no see!", he greets enthusiastically, already putting aside their favorite flavors (salted caramel for Bobby, red velvet for Chimney, black forest for Hen).
Buck's met some of his dad's crew so far, but Hen Wilson and Chimney Han are definitely his favorites. From the first time they showed up at the bakery, Buck just clicked with them; it's like they were always meant to be friends. Whenever they show up, he's always happy to stop a little and chat.
"Firefighter discount already up? I need at least three baked goods and a coffee before I can function like a human being.", Chimney says, throwing himself dramatically on a chair.
They're all in their civvies, but still carrying around that tiredness of a busy shift that Buck has known ever since he was ten and first moved in with Bobby and Marcy. Bobby has that weary air around himself when he pulls Buck in for a hug, but he still smiles as he squeezes his shoulder.
"Hey, kiddo", he says affectionately, gently placing a hand over Buck's bump. "And hi to you, little one"
"Hey, dad. I'm so glad you guys are here", Buck smiles as he passes him the cupcake plate. "How was your shift?"
"Long. Busy. Figured some sugar therapy would do us good", he says with a small grin. The moment he puts the plate down, Chimney and Hen are already eagerly reaching for their cupcakes.
"He wanted to check on you because of that fainting thing last week", Chim spills, mouth full. Buck fights the urge to roll his eyes; of course his dad told them about his little health scare the week before. He glares at him, but Bobby doesn't even look sheepish — he just shrugs,. utterly unapologetic.
"I'm a worried grandpa, sue me", he says, taking a small bite of his cupcake and humming in delight. Then, he turns those familiar scrutinizing eyes on Buck. "Did you take your vitamins today?"
"Yes, Dad, I took my vitamins today", Buck says, rolling his eyes. "Wrote them down in my pregnancy journal and everything"
"Hey, don't sass your dad, vitamins are important for your baby to grow healthy", Hen chides, and Bobby nods emphatically.
"I know, I know. I promise I'm taking care of us", Buck says softly, running a gentle hand down his bump.
"That's my kid", Bobby says proudly, and Buck feels that pleasant flush those words have brought him ever since he was adopted.
"Coffees are ready", Buck announces, placing the three mugs on the counter.
If they were regular clients, he'd stop his frosting to deliver it personally, but they're used to his laser focus when trying out recipes. Hen comes to the counter to pick them up, curiously looking at the cupcake on his hand.
"What are you trying out this time?", she asks as Buck tries to create the perfect frosting swirl.
"Oreo base with lemon frosting", he says, handing it to her after he finishes swirling with a flourish. "Still testing ratios if you're willing to be my guinea pig"
Hen grins, accepting the cupcake. "You know I'm always willing to be your guinea pig, Buckaroo", she says affectionately, then puts a gentle hand on his arm. "Are you sure you're feeling okay, though? No more scares after the one from last week?"
"I'm fine, Hen, promise", Buck tells her, a small smile on his face as he begins to frost another cupcake. "I guess I overdid it last week, but I'm being more careful now"
"Good", she says approvingly, and then takes a bite of the cupcake. "So is this, by the way. Perfect on the lemon."
"How come Hen is the only one who gets an extra cupcake?" Chim whines.
"Because I like her best", Buck quips back, without even looking up from his work, and Hen and Bobby are still mid-laughter when the bell above the door jingles.

Future Buck opening or helping to open a bakery and it’s specifically a firehouse/firefighter themed bakery and the walls are adorned with 118 memorabilia and pictures of him with his 118 family
Eddie comes in daily to collect fresh cookies for Chris (and himself) and the rest of the 118 come in to chat and catch up with each other.
Buck making cookies bc he wants that cookie so bad. (Also he wants Eddie to bring a part of him with him in more than a metaphorically sense and if buck is the cookies being taken with Eddie to Texas we could dwell on cannibalism as a form of utterly consuming love and how it mirrors the utter entanglement of Buck and Eddie's life for the past seven years)
