April 12, 2026 - Malabar Barbet (Psilopogon malabaricus) Found in parts of southwestern India, these small barbets live in forests, wetlands, and cultivated areas. They eat fruit, along with some insects during the breeding season, foraging in trees, usually in pairs and sometimes joining mixed-species flocks. Breeding from December to May, they excavate nest cavities in dead tree branches. Both parents incubate the clutches of two eggs and care for the chicks.
