Fun fact: Nancy Drew, the famous teen girl detective, turns 90 years old this year! Hundreds of books have been written about her mystery-solving adventures, plus some movies, TV shows, and even PC games. I've always loved Nancy Drew and decided to turn one of my extra dolls into her as a tribute.
I own all the Nancy Drew PC games, and never mind that the boxes say for ages 10 and up - I still need a walkthrough to get through them! :D I've also been enjoying the CW series, though my favorite is the 2002 movie starring Maggie Lawson.
Nancy is always described as having titian colored hair and blue eyes. We never actually see her in the PC games, and it seems each TV show or movie depicts her in a different way. So I took inspiration from book covers and the CW show since it seems to be the most accurate for her appearance, to create the doll.
Nancy's signature color seems to be blue. She always has a blue Roadster, and most of the books I've seen show her wearing something blue. Even the CW series where the waitresses wear different colors show her wearing the blue outfit. She also mostly wears flat shoes and a gold locket as a keepsake from her late mother. I gave the doll a blue dress with a somewhat vintage vibe as a shoutout to her 1930 origins.
I dug in my stash and found an old Barbie flashlight and magnifying glass, and knew right away they'd be perfect accessories. The doll was the Barbie Look Tea Time doll, but I painted her eyes and had her re-rooted from my good friend Barbie Tiffany Tran.
So behold, Nancy Drew! Happy 90th birthday, teen detective!
