Pairing: Shawn Spencer x stoic!fem!consultant!reader

Summary: Shawn Spencer takes a liking to you when you're put on the same case. He continues pursuing you even though you're stoic and unreadable. Amidst the team's attempts to keep you separated, Shawn reveals that you have history beyond this case.

Your seat shakes when Officer McNab jumps up, pumping his hands over his head as the other officers surrounding your desk exclaim with varied levels of excitement and intrigue. Apparently finding recently deleted folders in a suspected serial killer’s computer is all it takes for the police officers you share a station with to finally learn your name. Yet, even as the people occupying your office celebrate the victory, you never look away from the screen, don’t so much as crack a smile, just send the evidence to the lead detective and go about your work.

“Aren’t you excited?” McNab asks.

“Of course,” you answer. “But I do this every day; it’s not particularly special to me to find something like this.”

“That’s… so cool,” he muses happily.

“Thanks.”

“Everybody out!” Detective Lassiter barks from your doorway. “Computer Brain, we need you.”

“New nickname,” you murmur as you lock your computer. “I think you could do better, Lassie.”

“I’ll get right on it,” he deadpans.

Sitting in a dark bedroom wearing paper coveralls and gloves, you scroll through a computer still running Windows 95. Neither Detective Lassiter nor Detective O’Hara told you exactly why the computer needed to be searched — ‘and dissected’ Lassie added, but you remain unsure as to what that means — but it’s your job and it’s fun, so you do it without question.

“You found something?” Lassie checks when you remove your hand from the mouse.

“Nope,” you answer flatly. “Just waiting for it to load.”

“How old is that anyway?” Jules wonders.

“I’m pretty sure Y2K wasn’t a thing yet when this was turned on the first time.”

“Lassie!” someone yells from the front of the house.

He sighs, rolls his eyes, and walks down the hall. Juliet steps into the room with you, mindful of your space as she looks at the screen.

“You can watch,” you tell her, leaning closer to the monitor when the screen loads. “Contrary to the belief of some, I’m not a horrifically mean individual.”

“People think that?” Jules murmurs, stepping closer to your side. “I don’t. I just didn’t want to bother you.”

“Thanks, detective,” you respond. “I found some encrypted files. Want me to get into them?”

“Yes, please.”

“Murder and mayhem but no invitation for Shawn and Gus,” Shawn Spencer sighs as he looks longingly into the room you’re in. “I see how it is.”

“What are you doing here, Shawn?” Jules inquires. “We didn’t call for a consult on this.”

“Just me,” you add.

Shawn shifts, his smile widening as he looks at you. “You work in that closet in the station,” he realizes. “Digital… something.”

“Digital forensic consultant,” you say, scrolling through a list of folders. “According to my nametag, at least.”

“And what exactly do you do?”

“Basic version — I hack into stuff to find things no one else can get to.”

“Oh. That’s cool.” Shawn nods, tapping the corner of the desk. “I meant what do you do when you’re not at work? You like going to dinner or watching The Mentalist?”

You don’t bother looking up at Shawn or responding. Instead, you type a series of commands into the computer, then turn the screen toward Juliet. “Is this helpful?” you ask when a photo of a journal loads.

“It certainly is,” she assures you. “According to that, we need to find his office and his work equipment. Thank you so much!”

“You’re very impressive,” Shawn says after Juliet leaves.

“It’s my job.”

“Mm. I said you, not what you did.”

Finally, you look away from the computer to see Shawn. He smiles like he expects something, and his smile only brightens when you ask, “Did you need something?”

“I’m sorry,” Juliet offers. “Patrol said they found the laptop.”

“No worries,” you assure her, sitting in the shade of an unmarked cruiser. “I’ll be here until I’m useful again.”

“You’re always useful,” Shawn Spencer says, suddenly appearing beside you.

You hum, dropping your head back as your eyes close. Shawn inches closer to you, glad he convinced the officer who showed up while he was snooping to mention the missing laptop.

“Is it hard?” Shawn asks breathily. “Being SBPD’s prettiest?”

“Shawn,” Juliet warns softly. “Stop.”

“I’m not feeling any vibrations — neither good nor bad. So, I’ll sit with the digital forensic consultant until you’re ready for us.”

“Don’t bother her.”

“I would never, Juliet.”

Shawn crosses his ankles and sits beside you, sighing contentedly when Juliet walks away.

“I meant what I said before,” he admits. “If you’re ever free for dinner and the joy that is Robin Tunney as Theresa Jane, you know where to find me.”

“Computer Brain!” Lassie yells. “Found a cellphone!”

“That’s my cue,” you say as you stand, ignoring Shawn’s offered hand. “Good luck with those vibrations.”

Shawn nods, watching you walk toward the scene. “I’m feeling some vibrations now,” he whispers.

Two days into the case, Shawn has all but attached himself to you. He follows you around, flirts with you, and simply smiles when you remain quiet. Gus lectured him last night, warning him that your stoic façade is a clear indication that you aren’t interested. Still, Shawn found you first thing this morning and made himself comfortable in your space, uncaring that you didn’t say a word to him.

Now, he’s in your office, sitting opposite you and spinning in a desk chair while you work. The door is standing open while you try to get into the email account listed on the suspect’s cell phone.

Outside, Gus and Juliet watch you while Lassie complains about Shawn interjecting himself into the case.

“What should we do?” Juliet asks. “She seems so… Actually, I have no idea how she seems.”

“She’s impossible to read,” Gus agrees. “Yet the psychic can’t tell that his flirting isn’t doing a thing.”

“If he distracts her from the case, I will personally remove him,” Lassie interrupts.

“Remove him from what?” Juliet clarifies. “The case?”

Lassie shrugs, then says, “Sure. The case.”

Gus turns away from your open door, drawing Lassie and Juliet’s attention. “We should separate them,” he suggests. “It’s the only way to preserve our sanity and make sure she can keep doing her job.”

“Not a bad idea,” Lassie concedes. “Let’s…”

They turn together, all silencing when they see Shawn draped across the back of your chair, watching the screen over your shoulder as he asks questions that get no more than five words in response.

“Maybe we need a plan B,” Juliet muses.

“I found it!” Shawn yells when you enter an empty office three floors above the city.

Nodding, you walk past him to examine the laptop sitting open on the only desk in the office. There’s a subtle indent on the top, one that makes you think someone used the device to steady a rifle.

“Stolen rifle, contract hit, and disposal of the body,” you say as your fingers move on the keyboard. “Evidence of all of that would be helpful, right?”

“Helpful?” Juliet repeats. “It would ensure this guy gets convicted. More than helpful.”

“That’s good,” you hum. “Because I found all of it.”

“All of it?” Lassie asks dumbly. “You found—”

“Photos of the rifle, wire transfer from a Cayman Islands account, a map with a seemingly random dot on it shared anonymously, and what I think is rifle recoil damage,” you explain, gesturing to the laptop screen.

“You’re a genius!” Shawn exclaims, wrapping his arms around your shoulders in a tight hug.

“Spencer!” Lassie snaps. “Get off. Leave her alone before I arrest you for harassment.”

Shawn tightens his grip on you, lifting a brow. “Dude,” he scoffs. “Lay off.”

“No. I’ve had about enough of you following her around, trying to distract her, talking and talking and talking, when she clearly couldn’t care less!”

“Weren’t you married?” Shawn asks, shaking his head. “Just let me hang out with my wife!”

You blink, remaining impassive as Juliet and Lassie freeze, wide-eyed and slack-jawed at the explanation of Shawn’s behavior. Silently, Juliet looks at you.

Assuming she’s looking for confirmation of what Shawn said, you mutter, “Yeah, we’re married.”

“No,” Lassie says.

Shawn lifts one hand from your shoulder and asks, “No? What does that mean?”

“Just… no.”

Gus walks into the office, straightening his tie as he inquires, “What’d I miss?”

“They’re married!” Juliet exclaims, pointing between you and Shawn, who has wrapped himself farther around you in the seconds she wasn’t looking.

“I warned you,” Gus reminds her with a shrug. “I told you to keep them separated.”

“You knew they were married and didn’t tell us?” Lassie checks. “Guster, I thought we’d made progress.”

“Progress?” Gus exclaims.

“No, you two don’t make any sense!” Lassie yells, pointing at you.

You nod in agreement. Your personalities are vastly different — Shawn’s base mode is flamboyant, while you remain steady, stoic, and unreadable no matter what comes. Despite your behavior and appearance, you love Shawn and every compliment, every word, every touch, it all affects you.

“Don’t have to,” you point out with a shrug.

“Don’t have to what?” Juliet asks.

“We don’t have to make sense,” Shawn explains, fully aware of what you meant. “Now, I suggest you either look away or encourage my wife to leave with me.”

“He will make out with her right in front of us, he has no shame,” Gus warns.

“Get out,” Lassie demands. “But, uh, thanks, Computer Brain.”

“You got it,” you reply over your shoulder as Shawn ushers you toward the door. “Call next time you need me.”

“Leave the boyfriend at home.”

“Husband!” Shawn corrects.

“One step at a time, Spencer.”

junia’s official unofficial take on marx’s lore

hello tumblr.com. i is i, junia, aka user meddlesomemarx, once again here to scream about her favourite shitty clown. today, i bring the marx nation of tumblr an extremely hefty post on my personal backstory for marx. click below to see what i think…

in the year ????, the members of ??? corp wanted to bring back the ancient species destructor mundorum, so they could destroy the universe and start anew. using dna they had, they mixed it with brunto burt dna without thinking too hard about it and started to grow this life form. its name was to be M.A.R.X., which stood for:

m - malevolent

a - and

r - rough

x - xterminator

unfortunately, the lifeform ended up being defected - no arms. so, now they just basically had this baby laying around they had to take care of. because of the defect, it’s no surprise they didn’t bother looking for it once it escaped at 3 years old. they could always try again.

(this part is wip there’s plot holes i need to fill!!) marx winds up on a whole new planet, where he is found and taken in by a kind lady who becomes his mother of sorts. this is until he turns about 8 years old where, because he is completely unaware of how powerful he is, ends up creating a portal to another dimension. he gets sucked and boom! marx is in hell! he meets magolor here (THIS IS BEFORE RTDL. THIS IS FROM ANOTHER SITUATION WHERE MAGS ENDED UP AD.) and manages to get out after a few months. where does he end up?? popstar ofc!!

he spends once again a few years in popstar. he finds out about nova and after doing some research and finding out it can grant any wish you want, decides he wants to what he did in mww.

time to add some more stuff about him here woo hoo!! so. to cut to the chase. marx and galacta are the same species. galacta is a subspecies of whatever kirby is, which is different in the sense that their purpose is to cause chaos and destruction. however, they don’t get this urge until after they have left their childhood. with galacta, this urge came in much slower. (i hc that he was locked away at some point in his late 20s tbh, but maybe i need to check up on kirby lore for this) with marx, this urge comes in much, MUCH earlier but i will elaborate on this later. what you need to know for now is that for now marx doesn’t actually crave killing anyone. as mentioned in kssu he just wants to cause mischief/chaos. (so yes, this technically means the whole reason mww happened is basically bc he thought it would be “mad funny”.) the chaos causing timeline of a destructor mundorum basically goes like

innocent and can do no wrong ➡️ causing mischief is pretty fun actually ➡️ it would be really cool if people got hurt➡️ i need to kill people so fucking bad vro. ➡️ DESTROY EVERYTHING.

marx was in stage 2 when mww happened, stage 3 in current kirby timeline.

so anyways. he gets punted into nova. and of course, for the plot, he gets…

AMNESIA!!!!!!

so he forgets basically everything before another dimension and can remember littleeee snippets of his life with that lady but they’re really fuzzy.

marx is 11 during the events of mww, and in current timeline kirby he is 14. he doesn’t remember this though and bc of the amnesia and only has a rough idea abt how old he is so he just keeps on switching between 13 and 14 when people ask so. this means all of the mainline kirby games happened in the span of abouttt 3 years which seems believable enough to me if you put into perspective that it’s likely each game took anywhere between 2 weeks to a month from start to finish for each one, except for katfl which probably took longer then that.

some extra little things

marx’s craving for chaos is once again, entirely due to his species, and not because he is actively thinking hard about doing it, if that makes sense. not to say he’s innocent, but pin put it really well - destruction is his PURPOSE, not his desire. ykyk????

whenever marx tries to think about his life before another dimension he gets an absolutely horrendous SHAAAARP pain in his head. so he can’t really think about allat…

this isn’t only for wuacs but it will be canon in wuacs.

marx is very quickly getting worse in his craving for destruction unfortunately. with galacta knight it was very gradual but with marx it is happening unnaturally quick. it took galacta knight until his mid 20s to even get to stage 3 so the fact that marx is at stage 3 at just 14 is kinda concerning.

marx being part brunto burt is the reason why he has no arms, as well as why his eyes look like that.

adding on to the wuacs stuff, the concept of hugo and starman having to seal away marx as adults because he ends up gets too bad but being unable to bear the thought of killing him because that’s their best friend. 😊 (i don’t plan to add this but it would be really funny right guys) (update. guess who ended up making this canon in the au after story LMAOOO)

okay. im done. MASSIVE thanks to @pingrape for letting me scream to them about my marx lore, and also inspiring me to put the galacta thing unintentionally because i was actually originally only gonna do him being an ancient species revival but then i was writing a message that said “hugo when the random 13 or 14 year old (he doesn’t know) he befriended on accident is a probably gonna grow up to be a destroyer of worlds like galacta knight” and before i could even finish the word galacta i had the most amazing epiphany. they also inspired the brunto burt part because we were talking abt the noddy marx stuff and how i didn’t exactly agree (sorry marx-is-a-noddy truthers. heademptysimirror you make a really good point so you get a pass, as well as my friend lavender shout out to lav please check out their au too.) and they brought up how there’s other armless kirby enemies, like brunto burt. and then i started thinking “waittttt him being part brunto burt would make so much sense actually” so shout out to them.

Analyzing a bunch of stuff about Vincent (And bo) from the intro of House of wax 2005

Analysis under the cut for my friends n followers who haven't seen the movie

Okay so after watching the movie for like the 6th time I noticed something interesting about the cereal scene

So, we can see that the right half of the bowl is far more empty than the left. He's using his right hand as well, which interests me because Vincent's right side is the blind one- so wouldn't it be more likely that he started using his left hand and would have completed the left side first?

The director/filmmakers could have easily flipped the side Vincent was blind on in their minds and this could be a continuity error- lots of people do it so it's an easy mistake to make. But what if it wasn't? What if it was intentional?

I couldn't help but notice how the bowl is almost a mirror of Vincent's face- one half being empty and the other being full, akin to how Vincent lacks features on the right half of his face but has a complete one on his left.

The cereal can also be read in reverse (R/brandnewsentence)

The choice of cereal (some sort of knockoff cheerios) is honestly pretty interesting and I think important. Vincent's scar tissue is very pockmarked and hole-like, so the use of cheerios replicates the texture, while the milk can mimic smooth skin.

Either way you flip it, I feel like the cereal was heavy foreshadowing for the eventual reveal of Vincent's scarring and meant to be a neat tease for anyone who had seen the film multiple times.

With the fact that the cereal is still full on the left side an in-universe explanation why he only finished half before being given a lot more by Trudy can be read in a couple of ways.

The first of these is that it's a metaphor for the shame Trudy feels about the way her son looks. In her opinion, his scar tissue means he is lacking and, to deal with her own shame of having a visually imperfect son, she covers what she sees as 'empty'. I feel it's especially important that she's the one feeding him here, as she is the maker of his masks at this age too. She 'completes' what he does not have in every way at this age.

Another reading could be Trudy noticing his bowl is empty and not wanting Vincent to look at himself through the reflection of the milk. Here she is quietly teaching him that his reflection is something to be hidden, hiding her shame behind praise of how he acts compared to his brother. In this, his visage can always be hidden, from both others and himself, and so long as he keeps being his mother's darling she will accept and love him.

There's also the 'lazy parenting' reading- I was outright inspired by this analysis by @charleslee-valentine for this bit so go check out her stuff cause her readings are honestly really cool and inspiring for my own takes.

Basically, instead of encouraging her son to eat the rest of his cereal before he can get more- perhaps by encouraging him to use his left hand if he's having trouble with his right or moving the bowl so he can access it easier*, she just fills it back up. As said in the EJ's post the fact that she fills it can speak to wanting to overcompensate for what Vincent 'lacks'.

Instead of letting him work his mind to solve the 'problem' she just fixes it for him, praises him for not being his brother, and would have gone back to what she was doing. While he looks more favored in this moment, it's really just a different sort of neglect.

*I'll save my analysis of why she might not have encouraged him to use his other hand further down.

Yet another reading can be from Vincent's point of view. As there's more cereal to his left, his seeing side, he'd likely perceive that he has more cereal than he actually does. Except... he wouldn't be able to taste as much- for him, his bowl looks full but in reality it's close to empty and he's bringing up nothing but milk.

This can be a metaphor how he perceives his mother's love at this age. He's told he's loved more and his mother praises him for being better than his brother, but he isn't actually more loved, which is related to the fact that half his face is scarred. The praise his mother gives is empty, meant to mask her lackluster parenting. She's focused here on covering what he lacks- making Vincent's newest mask, hiding his reflection from him, praising him for doing nothing because at least he's not Bo. His bowl looks full, but it doesn't taste like it.

We can glean a lot of other things from just this scene as well. The most obvious being the utter mess the Sinclair's live in.

I will forever bully Bo and Vince for just leaving a goddamn waffle burnt in the toaster all day, if not longer, but they learned it from someone and that someone was their mother (And probably dad too).

Vincent's highchair being messy makes sense- he's like 3-4 and blind of course he's gonna be messy and leave a toy. But his mother running the stove COVERED in wax!? The fact that it takes an entire corner of the stove!? Like that's SUCH a fire hazard it's not even funny- why would you even turn on that burner if the corner is so goddamn messy?? Why did you clean the burner but not the rest of the stove??

(Seriously, TWO LAYERS OF THIS SHIT)

This isn't to mention Trudy's tools lying about on the table (At least they're in a pouch). The fact that cereal bits are all over the table and the random bowling pin add to this too. The empty bowl on the table makes me wonder if it's Trudy's, which is most likely, but it's fun to consider if it's Bo's from earlier, before he started to tantrum and was pulled away. The kitchen looks mostly clean, if cluttered, otherwise though.

I feel like from this it can be read that Trudy was messy as hell and Bo and Vincent just didn't clean up after themselves much leading to the house and museum being... the way they are.

The museum looks pretty ok, if suuuuper fucking dusty though. Neat but uncleaned. I don't think Bo or Vincent have even really looked around the lower half in years.

Vincent's workshop on the other hand has so much shit strewn about and being made of wax really doesn't help the grimy feeling.

Bo's... we'll call it a 'Man Cave' is similarly cluttered with shit and dirty. He's a mechanic so it makes a bit of sense but man these guys really have to organize.

Even Lester's in on the mess! Look at his truck! I know he picks up roadkill and all but he could at least sapre time to clean the windows!

The Sinclairs REALLY don't seem to know how to clean up huh? I mean they were men born and raised mostly in the 60s through the 80s, so it makes sense Trudy would have 'housewife' inclinations and not really teach her sons to clean for themselves but ffs she doesn't even clean up that much.

Another interesting thing to look into is the fact that Vincent uses his right hand at this age. It's seen that he's having a bit of trouble with his cereal- not eating most of the left side. The toy that gets knocked over is also to his right.

Later on as an adult we can see Vincent clearly prefers his right hand, but since he's blind on that side why didn't Trudy encourage him to use his left hand here? I mean he can see with that eye so wouldn't it be easier for him and make creating more easy too?

Well it's because she doesn't want her son the be more 'wrong' than he already is. Discrimination and punishment toward left-handed kids in American schools was still very common in the 70s as was general discrimination. I wouldn't be surprised if Trudy discouraged Vincent from using his left in the hopes that he'd be more 'normal'. A lot of American churches outright teach that left-handedness was evil, even today, so back in the 60s and 70s I wouldn't be surprised if it was taught as such.

With Bo's line; "What god took away from you" I can see that as Trudy believing Vincent is more broken because his left side was spared and in turn Bo is more evil for 'stealing' Vincent's right. Left-bias is far more common in smaller, highly religious communities as it does have negative associations within Christianity. I wouldn't be surprised if he was discouraged by Trudy from using his left hand, but still did so for practical reasons and remains primarily right-handed both out of shame and preference.

Perona absolutely talks to many spirits, some kinder than others, and when she learns Buggy can see and talk to them easily, she is absolutely vibrating beyond the physical plane.

Rouge absolutely gives her own shovel talks. Somehow hers is scarier that Roger's. Perona wants to be like granny Rouge one day.

I genuinely believe Perona got Zoro to do a board session with her over the two years, so he knows she has it and can talk to spirits ((and they send letters bc they're siblings send tweet)), so when they all meet up, Buggy is trying - in vain - to escape a rubbery tangled death trap that is supposed to be a hug, and Zoro is staring his not-dad and not-sister with the protective fury of a thousand suns.

It only gets complicated when, between one moment and the next Buggy goes stock still. Perona tilts her head with a hum. The clown just falls over and Luffy is giggling his head off while Mihawk and Crocodile straighten up. The strawhats are watching on warily.

Buggy, still smothered, just goes "Pero-chan, be a dear and pull our your board please. Grandpa is being annoying again."

"Okay mama Bug!"

She proceeds to lay out a comically large board, sets a piece of wood down and nobody even touches the planchet before it's zooming across the board

L-U-F-F-Y-L-U-F-F-Y-L-U-F-F-Y-L-U-

"YEAH WE GET IT, GET ON WITH IT!!!"

It's a hot mess honestly and many people are Suspicious of Foul Play, especially because Ace is such a sore spot for Luffy even now, but Lu's smarter than he lets on. He asks for proof that Ace is there.

Luffy bursts into tears. The crews are about to explode. Buggy's still being used as a stuffed animal by a teenage boy.

Luffy babbles about how it IS Ace and yeah Gramps DID kill Kevin and how is this happening and he's sorry and-

Roger and Rouge get to formally meet Luffy then, and Ace introduces Roger as his 'not as shitty old man', which is high praise.

Hours later, Luffy rests his head against Buggy's shoulder and asks how he knew to ask Pinkie for the board.

"My Haki's not built like everyone else," he says haltingly. "I see.... stuff that isn't really supposed to be seen."

"Magic eyes?"

"Basically."

"Cool.... does.... does Shanks know?"

"About the magic eyes or about Roger?"

"Yeah"

"Then yeah. He does. Old Fucker haunts us both"

"Huh...."

There's silence for a bit.

Buggy's not sure why he wants to break it, why he wants to say anything. He still does

"Firefist spends a lot of time away from here. He checks on his crewmates, he's said. But he checks on you, too. Came back one time raving mad about some 'blond twink ass' having the audacity to be alive, for some reason. But he watches over you the most, I think."

"Shishishi... yeah. Sabo died when we were kids. But he didn't die! Just got amnesia. He's better now."

"Sabo?"

"Blond twink"

"Ah. Well. Kid, your life is a fucking drama."

"Yep! It's fun, huh? Thanks, uncle Buggy"

"Don't call me that"

"I'm gonna do it anyway."

"Ugh..."

2. What are your favourite works from other SCP authors?

3. If Lillian (after containment) would end up in another GoI's hands, which one would you want it to be, and how would they treat her? (For me: it would be cool for her to get transported into VANGUARD or 6001 universe... wait i have an idea for a fanfic)

4. What's your opinion on minors getting into the SCP community?

5. When writing 8980, did you feel guilt for making Lillian suffer? And did you want to flay byrnes alive?

6. Do you think it would be possible for Lillian to develop androphobia due to her abuse?

7. I noticed that Byrnes was amnesticised with class E amnestics, if we follow the upgraded amnestics guide that means he remembers everythinf, but just doesnt care about it, was this intentional?

1: Definitely uncomfortable answering that one in terms of non-fictional stuff, but in terms of writing... probably putting that email at the end of SCP-5545. It was a super clunky "here's the solution, reader!" instead of letting the reader sit with a more surreal, disturbing ending. I don't plan to rewrite it at some point, but I still kick myself at how much I mishandled that article lol

2: I actually am in the process of going through everything I've written on the Wiki and compiling the best articles into a recommendations list! If you want to read what I have so far, you can check it out here!

3: This is really tough because most of them are not all that nice. If I had to pick, probably the Serpent's Hand. I feel like they'd be sympathetic.

4: This is really tough for me to answer. I joined the community as a minor myself, but had some... not so great experiences with the adults in the community (all permabanned now, thankfully). I don't know what to think about whether the Wiki should allow minors; I have deeply conflicted feelings on the topic.

5: Ouch. But yes, I did feel guilty, the entire time. Part of why it was so hard to write. I still feel guilty about it, a bit, even though I know she's a fictional character I conjured up in my own brain. I do still hate Byrnes though.

6: Absolutely. She probably did.

7: Ah, I didn't really follow the amnestics guideline. Not enough flexibility for my setting to stay faithful to it.

8: Depends how old she is and how old Byrnes is. Probably not but I wouldn't rule it out if she got mad enough and he was weak enough.

9: Dread, anger, and despair. Basically whatever my readers felt when they read it the first time :p

10: Eh. I'm glad the story was compelling enough that it got people mad enough to make a subreddit about hating its primary antagonist, but at the end of the day it does kind of miss the point about how Byrnes was enabled by systematic negligence and patriarchical tendencies. Though I guess r/fuckthesystemthatsupportedbyrnes is less catchy.

I will say, though, that I am absolutely not a fan of the fact that they used to have rule 1 forbidden posts about sympathizing with Marley. That's fucked five ways to Sunday. Happy it was removed, at least.
