a while ago, i read this post that argued why bruce shouldn't pass on the batman mantle at all.

i'm here to back it up.

bruce became batman to correct injustices after facing one himself, but not through vigilance or doubling down on crime as others might have done, instead, he enforced rules like the no-kill one, trying and failing several times to keep kids and teens out of the business, etc. point is, bruce stood on a mission as batman, he's carried it his whole life, and while some could say it shouldn't die with him, i think it should.

die is a strong word, instead of this mission for justice being passed on to someone else, let it be adapted. in the end, say, stephanie searched for justice with the same grudging enthusiasm bruce did. damian was as cold and stoic in the face of danger as bruce. nightwing was as believing in people, and jason as skeptical in return (after the lazarus deal) as bruce. tim as smart and cunning as bruce. cassandra was as traumatized over the whole ordeal as bruce. babs and duke as burdened as bruce. everyone, and i truly mean everyone, was their own batman version of bruce.

everyone is a strong contender to be the next batman in their own way.

so, instead of arguing the mantle be passed on to whoever, let it be dissolved.

although bruce's mission was to solve and fight against injustices, and he didn't exactly finish achieving that goal, or won't by the time he dies, he did exactly that at the same time. through others.

the community that adores batman is what made batman batman. so the batman ideal lives on, but he shouldn't. the legacy that fights for what is right should.

i stand firmly with those who think there isn't another batman. but not because no one else deserves it, or isn't worthy. but because batman has made sure that in one way or another, we're all worthy of being our own batmans.

so it shouldn't be damian, or dick, or cass, steph, babs tim or anyone else.

batman is all those who see injustices and follow bruce's path to what is right.
