it’s almost like bumbleby isn’t a “slow burn”, but rather it’s just bait. arkos got confirmed in three seasons, renora got confirmed v7.

but bumbleby? eight seasons, eight years, and all we’ve gotten is some Soft Looks Of Implied Yearning ™, some forehead touches, and some hand-holding (which could easily be taken as platonic because hand-holding is also shown platonically in this show).

it’s almost like when kerry refused to confirm bumbleby because “you need to keep watching to find out”, it was because the him and the other writers knew that this ship is one of the biggest reasons people watch the show in the first place.

a slow burn is a slow burn. but bumbleby is only getting their their relationship dragged out for years in the name of views. simple as that.

all this confirms is that mkek are absolutely pathetic, insecure, fragile cishets who cannot write queer couples to save their life but know that their fndm has done all the work for them & will bank on that through merch sales & teasing until their company inevitably crashes & burns. ✨💜

you can only justify things with a slowburn for so long & there still has to be moments for the ship that isn't the same thing over & over in a bloody forehead touch. if it's a slowburn, why haven't they actually helped each other with their trauma & just ended up giving each other more? why was weiss the one to help yang? why was sun the one to help blake? why did they barely talk about any of their issues? why have none of the cishet couples in the show like renora or arkos gone through the same "slowburn"?

it's a pathetic excuse & it's ugly to see just how much they're willing to manipulate a marginalized community for money. but this is rooster teeth & this isn't the first time so. it's to be expected.

what are your thoughts on people who say RWBY’s BB wasn’t given development because it’s “not the main focus of the show” and “they’re too busy doing other important things” even though it’s been like four volumes and we’ve gotten almost squat in actual bumbleby development

I think that's a really weak attempt at excusing already weak writing, and tbh, there's no real reason for it? Just admit that relationship development isn't the show's strongsuit and move on? (Except that saying such things seems tantamount to spitting in people's faces with how some of them react, but y'know, that's another rant altogether.)

Like, they weren't 'too busy doing other important things' to give Arkos an explicitly romantic subplot in v1-v3, they weren't 'too busy doing other important things' to give Blacksun an explicitly romantic subplot in v4-v5, they weren't 'too busy doing other important things' to give Renora an explicitly romantic subplot in v7-v8. So why is it only the one same-gender relationship among the main cast that they are 'too busy doing other important things' to focus on, exactly?

Nevermind that it's not even true. The reunion in v8 would've been the perfect chance for a kiss&declaration of love. They had months of canon time in v7 during which they could have focused on their relationship, talked about things, and had an explicitly romantic subplot rather than... a couple lingering glances, very mild flirting, and then nothing. (And if they'd actually done the smart thing and had v7 end with the election and then have what is currently the back half of v7 be all of v8 instead, they'd have had time to breathe and do those smaller, relationship-focused plots that would actually do all of their relationships justice.)

The simple fact is, at this point, there really is no excuse for why bumbleby isn't explicitly, in-the-text canon by now. Either they are deliberately dragging the relationship out specifically to string along fans without having to actually commit to it in the narrative--in which case it's queerbaiting and we're unlikely to get an actual bees kiss until the end of the show--or else they are just... really bad at developing characters and relationships naturally, in which case it's just bad writing and there's still no real excuse for not having improved over the last four years.

(Incidentally, what's doubly frustrating about this is that RWBY began as an indie webseries, and there's literally no reason that Blake and Yang couldn't have been making out from the very beginning, except for the fact that they likely weren't planning for bumbleby at the time. So 'they couldn't do it back then' isn't an excuse that holds water, either, because it's not like they had programming censors to contend with.)

i'm in my freezerburn feels but do you ever think about how weiss loves to show off her skills (and that's why she volunteers herself to be the example in class) because she's proud of herself... but the minute yang was in danger in the v3 tournament fight, weiss immediately sacrifices herself to save yang?? like instead of letting yang take the hit weiss straight up goes "no thoughts head empty only yang" and jumps in?? weiss is rly the sunshine protector huh

It’s shown that Weiss would throw herself into a flaming hot crater to protect the sunshine being Yang Xiao Long. So yes I think about it a lot! 😭

yeah i can do blacksun!! these might be a wee bit shorter just because i don’t think about them much but i’ll give it a shot!

it takes three people to wrestle sun into a tie and a buttoned shirt; neptune and weiss keep threatening him with bodily harm if he doesn’t dress up well for his wedding, but it isn’t until coco walks in an gives him a single look from under her glasses that he very quickly shuts up and dresses up

they marry on the beach; right out by the docks where they first came to menagerie. the sand reminds sun of vacuo and menagerie, despite the progress the world has made, will always be the safest place for the faunus

there’s no formal reception; they intentionally line the ceremony up with a big faunus festival going on in kuo kuana, so their “reception” is just a taking in of the sights and a celebration with their family, friends, and neighbours

ghira does a speech; as chieftain, he’s expected to, but he makes sure to throw in a little something about their wedding. he closes out by letting sun know that while he dislikes him less now, he still won’t hesitate to chop off his tail and use it as a doorbell rope. sun hugs him and says “i love you too dad!” they have.... a ways to go

their marriage often toes the line between romantic and platonic; while they’re married and totally content as such, they also have a very strong platonic connection, making their marriage very dynamic and healthy for them

Yang hugged Weiss close with an arm. They weren’t far from Atlas now. Something about the city in the clouds, the way it hovered there in all its majesticness, made Weiss seem small and fragile. Like glass. Part of her lip curled up. But it quickly fell back down. It as one thing to hear Weiss being called ‘Ice Princess’. It was a completely different thing when the name seemed to ring such truth. Right now, Weiss truly seemed to be made of ice. Like a singular tap would cause her to shatter into so many sparkling pieces. She hugged her closer. Unlike Weiss, her nicknames had always alluded to warmth. Firecracker. Sunny little dragon. As Yang wrapped her other arm around Weiss, she hoped she could grant her some of her warmth.
