bee: it’s so pretty here. you’d think more people would come here just to get lost in a place like this. xavier: mm, you’d be surprised. ain’t a lotta tourism these days. then again, mos’ folks don’t have a pretty lady on their side ta truck through these woods with. bee, blushing: thank you for hanging out with me today. i’m glad bunny made me say hi to you. i had a lot of fun. xavier: had? oh darlin’, today ain’t over yet. i’mma show you off all ova’ town.  bee, laughing as they play on the picnic blanket: then you best be ready to help me on the farm tomorrow! xavier, amused: ya think that’ll get me to turn down a good time, do ya? ya gotta thing or two to learn ‘bout me, gorgeous.

~ 4 Years Ago, Finchwick ~

Funeral Director: ...and upon our untimely death, we leave our farmhouse estate to our youngest daughter, Bee Abilene. We do this in hopes that she keep the spirit of the land alive, just as our love for her lives on in the soil. This land is to be given to her upon the day of her sixteenth birthday. Until then, it is to be cared for and tended to by Ranger Wilcroft.

~ Present, Bramblewood ~

It’s been three days since they dropped me off at this place. It’s beautiful here. But I don’t know what I’m supposed to be doing. I was twelve the last time I even stepped so much as a foot on a farm... my mom would know what to do. Ranger knows what to do, too, but he isn’t answering my texts or calls. He hasn’t spoke to me since since I was dropped off. I knew he was going to be upset about losing the farm. I just didn’t think he’d take it out on me. I don’t know what I’m doing here without them. I miss the sound of my best friends voice calling me and telling me everything would be okay before I drifted off at night.

The chicks cluck relentlessly and that big dumb cow won’t stop huffing at me every time I walk past the fence. I think she misses Ranger, too.

xavier, smirking: hi.  bee, shaking hands: i’m... i’m bee.  xavier, slyly: did ya forget how to say beautiful? bee, laughing: no... just bee.  xavier: well, ‘just bee’. i’m xavier. but considerin’ bunny was the one ta’ tell ya to come talk t’me, i’m sure you already knew that.  bee, nodding: she mentioned it in passing. xavier, skeptical: i see. bunny doesn’t do anything without her own self interest in mind. was there a reason she sent you over to say hi to me?  bee: she thinks i have a crush on rang- ...someone. and she wants me to get over it as he apparently doesn’t feel the same.  xavier: do you feel that way about this ‘someone’? bee: i don’t know. xavier, amused: how ‘bout you an’ i grab a bite to eat and you can let me know?

bee, shyly: hi... i’m supposed to come say hi to you.  xavier, amused: oh? suppose that means i’m suppose’ta say hi to you, too. bee: suppose you are. xavier, chuckling: well, go on then. say what ya came ‘ere to say. bee, blushing: hi.

bunny, nodding her head: him. bee, confused: that guy under the tree? what about him? bunny, fighting back frustration: if you want me to tell ranger you’re over this stupid crush, then you need to go over there and introduce yourself. and if i see that you’re trying to move on from him, i’ll help you. and i know xavier. he’s a good guy. bee, glancing at the man again: but he’s not really my type- bunny, huffing: well! i guess you don’t really need ranger’s help with the farm after all.  bee, quietly: fine. i’ll go talk to him. bunny: good! text me tonight with how it goes. and then we’ll see about getting ranger up on that farm! good? bee, disappointed: yeah... good.

bunny, suddenly stern: no. you weren't. you were a child who just lost your parents. you made up what you two 'had', bee. you made it up after you lost your parents to cope. bee: but- bunny, frustrated: no! now... i will tell him to stop by the farm and help you out if you can prove to me that you've moved on from this dumb childhood crush. bee, taking a breath: ...how?

bunny: so, how’ve you been, bee? bee: i've been good, i guess. a bit lost. i didn't have any direction when i got to the farm. have you heard from ranger? bunny, accusingly: uhm... yeah, bee. i've talked to him. he said that you've been mentioning his name ‘round town to a few of the townsfolk. bunny, pausing: bee: just once- bunny, abruptly: and he wants you to stop, bee. he said he doesn't know what you think you had four years ago, but he didn't feel that way. he took care of your parent's farm until you could do it yourself. that's all he was to you. bunny, passing bee a letter: he wrote down everything you need to know about the farm and some general maintenance contact information. bee, embarrassed: i- i just thought we were friends. bunny, openly poking fun: bee. he barely knew who you were. he said you hung out once or twice after school and you were too squirmy to bait your own hooks. bee, upset: no... we were-
