Neither one of them really felt like returning to their families and making conversation. They had a blanket and each other here, and Varda’s stars shone down on them, and that was enough.

“Do you think we’re written into them?” Makalaurë asked her of the many prophecies on the firmament above them.

“I hope not,” replied Telumë. “Shouldn’t prophecies be warnings, by some measure? I’d rather not be a part of something the Valar want to warn us about.”

“Ai, weren’t you supposed to be a romantic?” laughed Makalaurë, and she laughed, too.

“I think we’re written into the Song, though,” she said and took his hand. “How couldn’t we be?”

“You’re right,” Makalaurë agreed and meant it. “And even if we were not, we’d simply write a better song.”
