(looking back) at the end of all things [percy/vex, ensemble]
“We had a good run of it,” Percy says, looking down over the courtyard where Keyleth sprouts flowers from her fingertips to hand to the children.
“We’re still having a good run of it, dear,” Vex replies. He’s older now, grown into his stature. It’s funny; the white of his hair deepens to grey with age. He’s rueful about it but she loves it, the reminder that they have made it so far.
“I never thought I’d end up here.”
“Married to a beautiful, wonderful, very intelligent woman?”
“Home,” he says, and the word is big enough to fill the whole of the city, to wash down the newly-paved streets and swell through the vale, and Vex breathes it in and is fuller for it.
She breathes out slow and says, quiet and honest, “No. Me neither.”
Percy laces their fingers together. In the courtyard below, Keyleth shivers and shifts, and the youngest children clamor for the chance to ride the giant tiger. “I’m glad.”
“Me too,” Vex says, with a quiet kiss to his cheek and the lines there, the memory of time passed and promise of time to come.
Below, Mixie roars, and the children shriek with laughter.
“We’re already married, dear,” Percy replies with a cocked eyebrow, and Vex laughs.
“Yes, I know,” she assures him, wedding ring warm and comfortable around her finger. “We can have a ceremony, though. With everyone. I think–– I think I’d rather like that, now.”
“A renewal of vows?” Percy considers it. “If it’s what you want.”
Vex hesitates. “Is it what you want?”
“To tell the world how much I love and cherish my beautiful wife?” He squeezes her hand. “I would love nothing more.”
