Breeding Pair
Going to be breeding my first pair of Betta next month. Dooley (Halfmoon Male) and Pacifica (Double Tail Female). I will make a log as the babies develop. Wish me luck!
*note: I have been doing over a year of research, have potential adopters, have everything I need to care for them and have an experienced breeder on speed dial. This is not a "on a whim" situation.
Dreaming of betta breeding
Browsing male bettas from breeders.
I like the short fins on this crowntail. Very beautiful. Not the biggest fan of solid colored bettas but he is beautiful.
Plakat dumbo. Wonderful. Ahhh... I like dumbo ears and I think I'll work with them a little bit when I become a breeder. It doesn't drag them down nearly as much as some other fin flares. Plus it's a recessive trait so most of the offspring won't show it anyway.
What exactly is a hellboy betta? That's never been clear to me. Fancy yellow though quite rare.
Look at this mannnn. I love crowntail bettas.
Black orchid betta. A classic. Wish he had shorter fins but I'll just have to make sure his gf is a plakat.
My mans lookin like he drank a highligther.
Grumpy man. Orange is my favorite color. It probably took a LOT of line breeding to get a specimen like this.
Black and blue wonderful betta. Again needs a plakat partner
Not a solid white definitely a plus
It's like a Cambodian betta but blue instead. Only problem is I think he does carry the marble gene. I'm trying go avoid that but I believe it's hard to avoid entirely.
I literally dont think I've ever seen such a gorgeous orange betta 🧡🧡🧡
SOMEONE decided a normal sized bubble nest wasn’t big enough for him!
Quill’s Aquarium Adventures - Update #9
Three pieces of big news related to my aquariums!
The Rubra Update
Peek a boo! Betta Rubra babies are teenagers now as far as I'm concerned. Mini adults, just a little more growing to do. They're getting very curious about the world outside the tank and keep checking me out as much as I'm checking out them.
More little sparring practice too but no one is getting hurt.
Rupert has been an amazing father. The little guys dart out of his way, or at least they used to. Some of the teens aren't running from him quite so much anymore.
Dang youths. Get off my lawn.
TBH I'm kinda nervous about getting into betta breeding, because a lot of forums threads I've seen have really been harping on HAVING to systematically inbreed your fish, or else you're an irresponsible monster! As if a fish that isn't from the tenth straight generation of sibling x sibling breedings is somehow inferior to even, like, a fish bred from unrelated inbred monsters. Like I can't cross strain A with strain B, I HAVE to get a pair from one or the other, preferably from the same clutch. Ick.
It's like those fuckers who breed really flat-faced dogs, right? The ones who go on and on about "preserving the integrity of the breed" while crossing sibling to siblings and children to parents, for decades. There's a lot of talk about culling deformed fry, which I can't help but think maybe wouldn't happen so much if you weren't over there being the chairwoman of the Betta Eugenics Club, Susan. Cripes. I'll have to stay off the forums, because I'm sure they'd call me a horrible person if I DARED to breed a female from a local breeder, instead of "good stock" from their fucked-up incest circus.
Currently taking all the steps to have my first breeding. The excitement is getting me all kinds of worked up lol!
Stay tuned! :)
