Attention all betta owners!
My aunt got a betta for my cousin 2 months ago, and put him in a small not even half gallon tank (the tiny basic plastic ones at Walmart with the one small tree) and left him on her dresser until 2 weeks ago. (She got him in early November and never even changed the water and barely ever fed him) My young cousin decided she was bored of watching him and dropped him into the bigger 30 gallon fishtank they have with 15 goldfish in it. My grandma stopped by the talk to my aunt 2 days ago and saw him, his tail is all mangled and missing pieces, he’s got faded colors and he was hiding in the back corner.
My grandma immediately found a large decorative bowl she had at her house and placed him in it. My aunt gave the fish to her because he’s apparently “too much work”. My grandma brought him to her house where he’s currently being well taken care of (even in a bowl that’s about a gallon).
Her mother (my great grandmother) has a 15 gallon she’s willing to give me because I said I would take him in. Some of his color has come back, he’s like a light Aqua now when he was a grayish white.
I mainly rescue hamsters from cruelty situations, so I’ve never had a betta but I know you can’t house more than one in the same tank, and they need silk plants.
I’m getting the tank tomorrow and going shopping for plants and decor. My question is, what type of plants do your betta enjoy? What do I need to do to keep his fins healthy until they hopefully grow back?Do I get gravel or sand for the bottom? (Unsure is the small tank ground his fins up or if the goldfish ate them) My grandma got him a leaf hammock already and he seems to be happier, swimming around and coming to the side of the bowl to watch my grandpa.
I give my hamsters the best possible lives they could have, and I want to be able to give the betta the best I can too. Thanks so much in advance!!!
