Constructions of the illegitimate bisexual within bi women’s discourse anchor bi women’s claims to legitimacy and add momentum to the category’s institutionalization. By establishing criteria that distinguish the ‘true bisexuals’ from the ‘trendy,’ bi women’s discourse reduces the ambiguities of the category within the binary system of sexual categorization.

Importantly, these accounts remind us that the troubles and triumphs of bisexuality may be irreconcilable, as transformative moves that potentiate culturally intelligible identities simultaneously risk becoming epistemologically truncated. In other words, as Ault (1999) reminds us, while the adoption and use of specific categories (e.g. bisexual) and definable category markers (e.g. sexually attracted to both men and women) may render bisexuality more culturally comprehensible and viable (e.g. enabling the constitution of bisexual communities), retaining category borders (even permeable ones) does little to dismantle the dualistic and simplistic logic of hetero/homo and male/female.

Bi news from the USA where a survey has again tried to work out how many people are bi. Inquirer.net says it’s 5.5% of women and 2% of men here. Medpagetoday rounds that up to 6% of women here. Both seem to be pretty neutral statistic driven reports.

Just registered to take an Intro to Queer Studies course and I’m so excited! I emailed the professor to see how much work it’s going to entail because I’m already taking classes that involve a lot of reading and writing, so I don’t want to have to drop it since it’s an additional course. Hoping this works out!

Complicated? is a new report published by the Equality Network based on hundreds of bi people’s experiences of biphobia in accessing services – both public services like health and policing, and LGBT services like helplines and community centres.

I think that for monosexuals , they may tend to view bisexuality as like 'having two monosexualities' hence they imagine a bi person can never be content with just one other person.
