You know, the Blackgaard books are really good, and I love all the details and bits of the plan behind the plan, and I’m always excited for the next one... but I was a teensy bit disappointed with the fifth one.
Oh, they had plenty of additional details, and a few descriptions I was curious about, but when it came to the actual story of “Waylaid”, it was pretty much just telling the story exactly as it was in the episode. No unique perspectives, just the events as they happened in the script.
I for one would have wanted to have Chapter Seventeen from Blackgaard’s perspective, so we could see what was going through his head with a gun pointed at it, sort of the process of breaking down slowly. That sounds horrible, but it’s just that he’s so often in control, or acts like he is: I just think it would be interesting to see how that image began to crack.
It’s actually a pretty good revenge on Richard’s part. Now Blackgaard has to live with the knowledge that he was humiliated and forced to beg and plead over a child’s toy, and that his great nemesis, and a girl who was just terrified of him, and the smug Richard himself all saw it. He’s gotta live with that now, and that’s, I think, a way worse vengeance to suffer for someone like Blackgaard than just getting shot and having it over with.
(also, CLAIM, because I’ve been writing that, so don’t touch it, it’s mine)
