I feel like Vi (from Arcane) is what Yang should’ve been. Vi is allowed to have a love interest, while still caring about her other relationships. Powder (or Jinx) is still her highest priority no matter what, and she even gives Echo (her friend) higher priority when the situation demands it. She doesn’t forget all her other relationships the moment she gets a love interest. She and Caitlyn actually have great chemistry and doesn’t feel forced or cringy. My only complaint is that Caitlyn is the only woman (or feminine presenting person) in Vi’s life who isn’t family or an antagonist, so striking up a relationship would feed into the stereotype that lesbians and mspec people fall for everyone we met. Of course, that’s not to say I don’t ship them, or that they wouldn’t be good rep. I can’t wait for season 2!!

vi is like... yang, if the rwby writers actually cared about consistency and high-quality writing.

like you said, vi is allowed to have a love interest in caitlyn while also having other relationships that develop. i feel like caitvi throws all the arguments people have had over bumbleby's canon status out of the water.

folks said bumbleby couldn't happen because "the girls are in the middle of serious things and don't have time for personal relationships because they're fighting a war!!"

well, ignoring the fact that arkos and renora both happened in the middle of big battles, caitvi blows that out of the water by basically having them have romantic moments during all the shit that's going on.

runeterra, like remnant, doesn't have queerphobia or discrimination based on things like sexuality or gender. in an interview with one of the arcane writers, amanda overton, this was said:

and it makes sense. i love when fantasy realizes that homophobia simply does not need to exist in their made-up world!! there's no concept of "otherness" in the world of runeterra (regarding sexuality at least), and it's great to see that caitlyn is able to bring girls to her bedroom and her parents just... don't react to them being girls. it's nice. fantasy worlds do not need homophobia/queerphobia/etc.!

the thing is, neither runeterra nor remnant have queerphobia. but while caitvi basically start being a thing in like... the three days they've known each other, bumbleby is still in the "will they? won't they?" limbo. ren and nora still argue whether blake and yang are just friends or something more.

arcane shows that the argument that "it's too soon for blake and yang to get together" just doesn't hold water. over just the course of a few days, cait and vi were able to establish that they were at least attracted to each other. neither runeterra nor remnant have queerphobia, so what's with the fucking wait on making blake and yang official?

furthermore, how come vi is allowed to show blatant attraction to caitlyn in the "you're hot, cupcake" line but we can't get anything similar for yang and blake? like, just a reminder that rooster teeth is a fully independent studio with no networks or censors to go through regarding its LGBT+ characters, so we should expect nothing less than EXPLICIT confirmation for them regarding queer representation. RT has has no reason to make it vague or hide it!! literally zero!!

but anyways.

vi is just... such a great character. she's allowed to have a romance with caitlyn that takes the forefront of arcane (a big part of arcane's story is caitvi's romance, this is undeniable) but she is also allowed to have other important relationships in her life.

it feels like yang and blake are not afforded this opportunity, and that they've both been basically joined at the hip ever since volume 6.

arcane is rwby's atlas arc but better written, vi is a better yang, and caitlyn is a better weiss/blake. 

that's just my two cents on it anyway. watch arcane, folks.

In the hands of better writers, I’d love to see RWBY show Faunus having 1 human parent and 1 Faunus go through trouble being told they aren’t “Faunus enough”. As a first generation Latina, I’m constantly told I’m not “Latina enough” from one side, and then not “American enough” from the other. I’d also like to see Faunus who have gone through surgery to be human passing. How’s life different for them, and show those who had successful surgery and those who didn’t and those who regret it and those who didn’t. I’d like to see Faunus ashamed of their features. I remember when I was very young, I tried to tape my eyes to make them look big, put clothes pins on my nose to make it look small, smack baby powder on my face to try to make me look white and hide my lips to make them look thin. Of course, those last long because those methods weren’t practical and quite painful. I used to hate my Dominican/Guatemalan features, but now i appreciate them. I known Blake wore a bow to be human passing, but we only get snippets of her inner turmoil. Same with Ilia. We are just told that she hid her Faunus trait to fit in, but we don’t see it.

i'm so glad that you love your features more now, i'm sure they're beautiful 🙏❤ but yes, this is absolutely something i & luke think is missing from the racial element of the faunus storyline & that's ... the representation of mixed race people.

in rwby, you're either one or the other & the overall applicability of the intricacies of racism irl just aren't there. it's a very sanitized, child friendly version of racism that is simple to understand but doesn't accurately reflect like 90% of actual lived experience with racism. there's nothing for those who don't look like what "their race should look like", nothing for those of mixed race heritage & nothing to explore those little intricacies.

& sadly i don't think we're going to get to it because it feels like ever since adam was murdered, they've really put the faunus storyline to bed & only ever bring it out now for the humans around blake like weiss & yang to prove they're no longer racist; instead of the faunus being centred in their own storyline, it's about uplifting the humans around them. essentially just the white saviour syndrome but for furries is what rwby's created here lmao.

What traits do you think would turn Kakashi off in a partner?

Okay so to answer, Kakashi has pretty high morals so anyone who doesn't value that and follow the same in their own lives is probably not gonna be right for him. That is not to say that he's uptight or that there's no place for mistakes w him...all he needs is to know that the person he's with really does try to do the right thing. Even if they falter once in a while that's okay but he just needs to know that their heart is at the right place

Second thing is selfishness. I think he'd definitely be turned off by selfishness cause it's already been established that teamwork is important to him. so anyone that doesn't think of others or value others is gonna turn him off. He wants someone who has compassion for the people around them, someone who wants to protect and fight for the ones they love. Not someone who only thinks of themselves and would use/abandon others for their selfish needs. Even in the relationship he needs a partner who'd hear him out and understand his side during times of conflict. someone who'd cooperate with him to resolve their problems instead of being adamant and refusing to take his side into consideration as well

He also wouldn't like someone that's vindictive. Someone who brews hatred or attempts to seek revenge. He really doesn't think that vengeance is the way to go and it's not the kind of negativity that he needs in his life or the kind of people he wants to surround himself with. He needs someone who'd bring positivity, help him look at the bright side of life and appreciate the good things, not someone who'd take him along with them into a spiralling tunnel of hatred and darkness. Kakashi himself likes to be hopeful, he likes to be optimistic and believe that things do get better if you just hold on and keep going so he needs someone with the same belief and capacity. This would apply in the relationship as well because he really won't appreciate a partner that likes to play mind games or someone who'd have a mindset to "get back" at him if he ever messes up, or just someone who'd purposefully try to make him jealous or wtv as a way of seeking revenge for any mistake he might have made unknowingly. If they go through a rough patch, he'd need the other person to keep faith and be willing to work on the relationship instead of giving up

He also wouldn't like someone who doesn't stand up for what they believe in. Someone that sees something wrong being done and chooses to remain silent. That to him is as good as committing the wrongdoing. To know that something is wrong and let it happen anyway is cowardly to him and he's not here for it. This also includes someone who keeps complaining about something and still refuses to take action themselves to make the change they want to see. But a person with a mind of their own, who takes action and stands up for the right, even if it means breaking any "rules" would be very attractive to him

I also feel like he wouldn't like someone who is too power-seeking or gets caught in the strive for power so bad that they begin to step on others in their way to get to the top. He definitely appreciates ambition but he wouldn't appreciate someone that becomes so obsessed with the idea of having power that it becomes the only thing they live for, and they become blind to everything else around them

Also.. i think he won't like someone who's too serious. he's got a goofy side so i think he'd do well with a partner who can complement that side of his, someone he can joke around and let loose with yknow? Someone that makes him laugh and laughs with him. If you're in a relationship with him, there's gonna be a lot of playful teasing and dumb pranks so it's gotta be someone who can appreciate that

Lastly, he'd be turned off by a person who gives up too easily or simply succumbs to a bad situation without even trying. Kakashi is someone who's has faced a lot of hardships and adversities in life and still managed to keep going with the hope for a better future. He believes in having faith and not giving up and that kind of determination, that kind of will to refuse to let things crumble you down is a very attractive and admirable trait to him

Oh and also, disloyalty. He's not here for it. He's very loyal himself and he expects the same of his partner, in terms of their relationship and everything else. He likes a person who knows where their loyalties lie and don't keep oscillating

sooooo uh yeah that's all that i could think of rn ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ kakashi isn't gonna fall for just about anyone, he's got a lot of values and principles of his own and he'd want someone who reflects the same. so if he does fall for a person you better believe it'd be one special as heck person with a big dick personality

When I first got into the RWBY fandom, the only ship names I knew was White Rose and Bumblebee. I used to think that the team ships had the theme of nature (it didn’t occur to me that they were based off colors), so when I thought of Weiss and Yang, the only thing that I could think of that involved white and yellow in nature was Yellow Snow. For a second, I legitimately thought their ship name was Yellow Snow! 🤣🤣

Maybe that can be the term for toxic Freezerburn shippers as that would be just as gross?? I was embarrassed about it for a while, but now I can look back at it and laugh. And hopefully you (and others) can laugh with me! 🤣🤣

i've been trying to think of names for toxic freezerburn shippers and the best i could come up with was "freezerbitches" but even that isn't really bad.

yellow snow is actually one of the ship names for white knight tho, stated by jaune himself at a 2016 rwby panel. check out his dank username, lol.

it's also one of their ship names according to the white knight shipping page!!

i find it to be an odd name but hey if white knight shippers are embracing it, who am i to say anything??

i'm still tryna think of a name for toxic freezerburn shippers (even though i've never met a toxic freezerburn shipper personally). we've got "thorns" for toxic whiterose shippers, "wasps" for toxic bumbleby shippers, but nothing for freezerburn yet.

i used to!! not so much anymore, the fandom kinda became clique-ish and it turned me off entirely. you ever notice how all the kingdom hearts zines are run by the same few people?? yeah.

there was also the fact that i loved playing khux and used to spend hundreds of dollars monthly on it but it felt so grindy that i eventually just quit. then it shut down, rip.

however, i do still love my favorite ships from the series. sokai, terqua, rokushi, rokunami, rikunami, akusai, namishi, roxiri, kainami, and aquarella are my favorites.

i actually got a blacksun (rwby) as rokushi (kingdom hearts) commission done a long time ago!!

it was my first game and first fandom so it'll always be close to my heart, i'm just not as into it anymore.

I don't understand the argument that pansexual isn't legit because it hasn't been "around as long" as other labels or that because it can overlap with bisexuality, it shouldn't exist. There was a time when gay was a new term, when transgender was a new term, and when bisexuality was a new term. Just because pan and bi *can* be used interchangeably by *some* people doesn't mean pan is redundant. There are tons of words that share the same or similar meaning in general. Gay and lesbian pretty much mean the same thing, with the only difference that gay is typically for men, and lesbian for typically women. Is lesbian a redundant term? I don't think so.

right? no argument against pansexuality is logical or factual. trying to make sense of them is just pointless.

When I first heard the term "battleaxe bi", I thought it was so cool. I originally thought it was a term for bis who fiercely protects everyone in the community, especially those of mspec. That being said, I also thought there was a version of that for other parts of the community too. Was wicked disappointed when I learned of it's actual usage. Would you know if there are other versions of it for other labels? I really hope not.

battleaxe bi was originally just a cool, fun name for bi people, and was popularized (if not created) by an inclusive artist who made versions for other identities, including other mspec labels. but assholes coopted it to be something negative and hateful. i don't know if other exclusionists stole other versions of it to be a symbol of their hate, though. it's very possible, but battleaxe bi is the only i've seen used that way.
