Why Yhwach Took Harribel

I think there is a deeper reason why Yhwach recruited the Arrancar.

And captured Harribel.

It was stated that the Arrancar had been recruited because they were valuable assets he needed no training.

But we never saw them again and funny enough the Shinigami side ended up using Arrancar soldiers. I was hoping that the anime would expand that plot point.

But I think the true reason Yhwach recruited them were as a backup to Ichigo to break the Soul King's seal. In the anime Yhwach revealed he needed someone who was a Shinigami, Quincy, Human, Hollow and Fullbringer to break the seal. I think he used the Arrancar as a base to create the being he needed. Arrancar already have Shinigami and Hollow powers and Yhwach was able to grant Ebern Quincy powers.

I think BG9 is a result of this. There is a theory that BG9 is Shawlong Koufang because of their similarities. And in the anime they have the same voice actors. I think he was experimented on but ended up becoming a full Quincy. Him having a 9 in his name suggests he is the ninth version.

I think the group that Luders Friegen was that first invaded the Sereitei are Arrancars who were experimented on. Maybe in the anime they will appear.

ok ok ok I have two theories. kinda cheating i know but hear me out:

Theory 1: the 'canon' answer

I think Aizen's goal would be to have as few vulnerabilities as possible when transcended. Imagine reaching practical godhood and then keeling over when you get hit in the balls? He'd rather DIE. Also, at this point, I feel that sex/romance/etc. will be beneath him. So he'd have no use for it.

Theory 2: the preferable answer

Alright. So. Lets say Aizen has someone he likes gettin freaky with. Or let's say he's a total manwhore and wants a harem surrounding him once he becomes a god. Either way - he will want a dick. And he will want it to be huge. He'll also want to make, like, so much cum. Basically, every time he fucks someone, he wants there to be no question that he has transcended humanity.

I think he'll keep his asshole in this form, but I agree with you - it will be squeaaaakkky clean. And tbh I see him as a top 100%, but out of curiosity he's gonna want to know what being penetrated in his transcended form feels like. So he's gonna either get pegged/get fucked from behind, depending on who his partner is, at least once. But I don't think he'll do it any more than once, because ultimately he will want to be in complete power

Crazy theory:

What if when a Quincy kills a Hollow, they don't really completely destroy the soul, but instead does a 'hard reset' or 'total cleanse/detox' to the soul (under the assumption that certain traits of a soul can still linger in later incarnations) and sends it back to where new souls are made.

Say my headcanon for the Sixth Realm, let's just call the Genesis Realm. To make a long story short, it's basically what remains of the Primordial Sea. This is where new souls are made into being and eventually sent out to any realm (barring Hell...maybe). Then, there's the 'Insidious', a name I chose for this 'darkness' that threatened the Primordial Sea and is the reason for Hollows being possible. The attack of a Quincy removes (Edit: more like exterminates) the Insidious from the soul while at the same time...well, 'bleaching' the soul.

And since that Soul is unable to contribute to the cycle of reincarnation between the Living World and Soul Society immediately, this can still cause an imbalance of sorts.

Thus, keeping the danger of Quincies overhunting Hollows.

Of course, perhaps due to possible propaganda, the Quincies and Shinigami are unaware of this fact.

Jugram Theory

I haven't been able to stop thinking about this idea of mine for a while so I'm posting it here. Everything's under the cut.

Okay, so we all know that Yhwach can see the future and alter it however he likes because why not? And yes he gets stripped of this 1k years ago, but we also know he had it during the Friend flashbacks, because we see him using it while he exposition dumps and drives a wedge pretty firmly between Jugram and Bazz (which, as an aside, I'll always blame Yhwach for, and not either of them, but that's a rant for another day).

In the anime we also see him using it while destroying Bazz's home, which we can pretty well take as canon, thank you Kubo.

Basically, the thought that's been itching my brain incessantly is how much did he use it to predetermine Jugram's backstory? Like it's an over powered ability on an average day, who's to say he wasn't using it other times?

He already knew before they met that Jugram would be the perfect right hand man, and that's an important thing to have if you can see that you will be getting your powers stripped and sent to sleep for almost 1k years right? Someone is going to have to make sure things run smoothly while you're snoozing.

My thought is that once he knew he'd need a buddy who can take over he set about making sure that whoever it was wouldn't betray him under any circumstances, because they're going to be one of the main people making sure your people don't rebel.

Enter Jugram. A Quincy with the same ability sharing power that Yhwach has and, more or less, the perfect childhood circumstances to ensure he is, to an uncanny degree, unwilling to go against whoever it is he's decided to be loyal to. I'm sure it isn't lost on you how strictly loyal he is, even with manga events excluded. But he basically never decides anything based on his own opinion or thoughts, but by judging what Yhwach would want (which as the person closest to him he’s pretty good at). I mean he basically tells Uryu after executing BG9 and Cang Du that Yhwach’s orders are to be followed even if it doesn’t seem to make a lick of sense.

I feel like he’s too perfect to have not been by design. To put it simply I think Yhwach may have used the Almighty in order to affect Jugram’s backstory such that the end result would be his perfect right hand man.

Going back to the fact that Yhwach was using the Almighty while destroying Bazz’s whole shit. Even if he didn’t make Bazz and Jugo meet, the fact that he left Bazz alive when it appears that no one but he and Jugram survived that attack makes me think he saw value in their relationship. Let’s face it, without Bazz, Jugram probably wouldn’t have felt he had much to live for after his uncle died, he definitely wouldn’t have become such a competent swordsman, or even been in town to meet Yhwach that day. Sure he could still have easily been tracked down and taught those skills, but why bother with that when you can have Bazz inspire it?

Bazz also plays a pretty integral role in the reveal of Jugram’s power sharing abilities, even if it is mostly a passive one. Obviously neither could have known that was what was happening, but it’s going to be jarring to realize all of your training hasn’t been for nothing, your friend has just been taking it. And maybe it isn’t kind, but if I were in the same circumstances, I’d be pretty peeved with my friend for taking what’s mine, even unintentionally. I mean they’re teen boys, they aren’t the most rational creatures lol.

But if it’s a possibility to think that for even a second, why can’t the Almighty be used to just pick out a future where that hurt lasts for long enough to make you turn your back on your friend permanently?

Right? Like… I just can’t stop thinking about how things could’ve gone differently and that that may not have been the original way things would’ve gone had Yhwach not been actively using the Almighty both those times.

And it’s fully possible more was altered to tailor Jugram to his needs, this is just my basic ideas for this theory. I still wonder about what happened to Jugram’s parents, if they died or abandoned him? Did Yhwach know about Jugram’s uncle’s abuse, and if so, how long did he know and why let him go through that if not for a reason? Did Yhwach intentionally keep other Quincies with the power sharing ability from being born before and after Jugram?

I hope this made sense. It was originally a long ramble to a friend that I cleaned up to post here haha

but what do you think is Shunsui and Katen's relationship is? because some people say that she's the representation of his lover and they look like a married couple + a family (with Kyokotsu as their child)

ahhhh i love that you asked me. i had a couple different thoughts about it. and there’s s definitely a lot of room for interpretation.

overall i think since zampakuto are part of their wielders own soul, they aren’t lovers in a literal sense nor is she representing his lover specifically, but i do think their dynamic, along with kyokotsu, is familial.

because kyokotsu was never originally part of shunsui’s zampakuto and was “birthed” by ohana to hide nanao’s sword, at a glance she does appear to be the “child” of shunsui and katen. i understand some people drawing that conclusion but i think the three of them mirroring a family dynamic is symbolic of the fact that shunsui’s never had a proper family.

at least from our understanding due to the relationship of him and his brother being strained when he was young, not really having much information on his parents status and relationship and seeing as he’s lost so many people close to him

the three of them trust and confide in one another, and have a deep understanding of each other. and it’s clear they are all very close and fond of one another seeing as they use affectionate nicknames (sakuranosuke, ohana and okyō) and yes ik okyō doesn’t speak but bottom line is they get her and she gets them

together they naturally fill that void that shunsui may have, not in the traditional mother-father-child way, more like a found family if anything because they all seem to function more or less as equals rather than there being any sort of hierarchy or one sided power imbalance.

as for katen and shunsui specifically, while some see their relationship as romantic i think what they have going on is their own unique spin on the dynamic of sword and master due to a combination of their personalities.

shunsui by nature is a womanizer and very romantically inclined (perverted) but never has any serious relationships, to me katen’s looks and conduct reassembles a Oiran and their “relationship” does also remind me of that sort of dynamic.

historically Oiran women weren’t just employed for sexual services, they were very high class courtesans they had a variety of roles and learned skills and there’s suggestion that some even had political influence due to mingling with the elite classes.

even though the zampakuto rebellion arc is filler rather than canon, all of the ways katen spends her time with shunsui (drinking parties, playing games and instruments, etc) and the way she is a comfort to him and protects him when he’s injured (in TYBW) is not unlike how men would seek out and receive the “comfort” or entertainment of Oiran’s.

and as far as we know shunsui’s never had a stable relationship. he doesn’t want responsibility, he hates it, he’s had bad experiences of being relied on by others and then having them die

so to me him having a close romantic connection with anyone could be difficult for him, and it makes sense that this aspect of his personality would result in his zampakuto spirit and their relationship symbolizing that kind of service/dynamic and filling that void in a “no strings attached” sort of way. he gets affection and companionship from her but not in a sexual or romantic way.

that’s not to say that katen’s personality or role is simply to serve him (i still think overall they are closer to equals more so than a typical sword/master) especially because katen has her own will and her abilities as his sword demand that shunsui submit to her rules.

i just think that it’s poetic for the flirt with commitment issues to have a sword spirit that represents Oiran (also traditionally Oiran’s played a role in Kubaki theatre during the peak of their fame during the Edo period and Shunsui’s bankai is based off a Kubaki performance so there’s that)

this independence and demand for him to follow her rules is mentioned during his fight with stark, shunsui admits he gets tired of “playing” with katen (using shikai or bankai) because he has to follow her rules, and can’t really use the full power of his sword unless she’s in the mood for it and that she can be selfish.

in TYBW it’s clear her personality can be a little mean and some of her dialogue makes it seem like she’s jealous or possessive, even going as far as to mention that he’s wearing another woman’s kimono. again this can have a romantic implication, but i think for context it was just a jab due to her being upset he doesn’t use her in battle often.

ultimately i feel she just wants to keep him safe because she cares for him and if he doesn’t use her power because he doesn’t like following her rules all the time, he’s more likely to get injured. it just comes out in a nasty way due to her personality.

that’s my theory, but another explanation i’ve thought of though i’m less inclined to is that the relationship between shunsui and katen is a direct result of the story/stories that their bankai is based off of rather than it being a legitimate relationship.

in TYBW katen talks about fate ‘playing games’ with them (both losing an eye) that combined with the way she manifests by embracing him, the flirtatious and playful banter between them and how in the manga she mentions that she doesn’t understand how they got paired as sword and soul reaper but accepts it do all relate to the themes of the play his bankai his based off of( lovers tied by fate and pity, dying together, etc.)

their bankai manifests as a play, and everybody surrounded by the spiritual pressure of this bankai is essentially forced to act it out.

so it would make sense they too have to “act out” their roles in it and that would explain their dialogue and interactions during bankai, acting out the lovers suicide rather than being actual lovers.

Question: Ichigo was using a quincy based power disguised as his zanpakuto all the way up until tybw, right. And quincy power works very differently when it comes to souls.

He was konsoing them, right? It was still cleansing them and sending them on to soul society, right?? That is how it happened???

I've started thinking about the (approximate) ages of Renji and Rukia and while some would say that Rukia is at least 150 years old because she said that she's ten times Ichigo's age when they first met (Ichigo was 15).

First off, she was most likely over exaggerating (and was acting a little high and mighty.)

Second, she (along with Renji) didn't make an appearance in the Turn Back the Pendulum flashback (about 110 years ago).

Someone could argue 'What about Isshin?' He didn't appear. But, he should still be around. And that's true.

But, one thing could very well put wrench in this.

Byakuya. 110 years ago, he wasn't a captain yet. 110 years ago, he looked younger versus how he looks now.

Granted, this might be anime only. I don't remember. (Isn't there a cover art for Turn Back the Pendulum?)

Still, some would probably take this as evidence.

We do know that 55 years before the start of the series, the now captain of the 6th Squad Byakuya would take Hisana as his wife. Fifteen years later, he would find and adopt Rukia, who was attending Shinigami Academy.

I think I might have found a continuity error. Apparently, Renji graduated on the 2066th year of the Academy. I take it that means the Academy was founded 2066 years ago. Given what we have now with the TYBW...I think that got retconned.

I am aware that at least Shinigami can live for a long ass time and age verrrry slowly. 1000 years ago, Yamamoto looked to be middle age and looked old in the year 2001. The thing is...we don't know Yamamoto's exact age.

We don't know how the aging process works. Like...do they age normally before hitting a certain number and start aging slowly? Or is it one of those things where even the baby years last longer than humans?

...I kinda want it to be the former cuz I'm not sure how baby Rukia could survive that long.

With all this, I do think that both Rukia and Renji are less than 110 years old. So, I like to think that they are very much like teenagers (like Ichigo and the others!). Still wet behind the ears and all that.

Like I honestly believe that Renji and Rukia have been Shinigami for maybe a few years and not, like, decades.

I like to think that zangetsu shares names

White Zangetsu is for the hollow, a demon. White moon slasher. Powerful, godlike, metaphorically significant. I used to believe that zangetsu can’t be affected by Kyouka Suigetsu, because her name means “mirror flower water moon” , if zangetsu is a moon destroyer, then there’s no moon in the water to reflect, to trick someone. So I used to think getsuga tenshou could break apart Aizen’s hypnosis illusions

And then there’s Tensa, the black Quincy, the angel. “Heavens chain” is such a perfect reference to that. Chained by his past, chained to heaven as the soul prince. I just think splitting their names and sharing them like that is great

Honestly, I don't think the name Zangetsu belongs to just one of them either. Ichigo at one point gives the name to OMZ (Old Man Zangetsu) and Shiro (Shiro Zangetsu), so in Ichigo's eyes, it's both.

I also think the name can shift between them. OMZ held the name when suppressing Shiro. As Shiro got stronger, he took the name, (the flesh became bone, as Shiro said).

But part of Ichigo's character growth is learning that the name ALSO belongs to him. He IS Zangetsu, Zangetsu is him.

So in a way, there have always been three Zangetsu.

At least, that's how I like to think about it
