Once upon a time in a distant kingdom, deep in the forest lived fairies. They lived far away from people, not many ever even saw them – they were a myth to the human kind. The job of fairies was to keep people from taking their magic, to keep them from ever discovering it.
The four elements of nature: fire, water, earth and air. The four ancient magic stones carved by the hands of fairies. They carried the hearts of those elements, the power for controlling them. It was forbidden for anyone except faeries to use them.
But once a greedy king found out that the mythical creatures were real, he ordered his people to wipe out their kind and steal their powers.
The king killed almost every single one when he found where the magic stones were hidden. Once he tried taking them, the maker of the stones threw a curse on them.
“Whoever has their powers shall never get strong enough to control nature itself.”
The king acquired all of the stones, every single magic power that comes from them. However he was too weak to bear all of them so he found a way to share it with his people, making a dangerous army of magic users, all with different powers drawn from the stones.
Even after his death and the complete extinction of fairies, the powers kept spreading from person to person. Children with powers were born, over the years almost every person in the kingdom had powers.
The magic stones were lost, many tried to find them but they were hidden by the last of fairies before they all died.
The people and children who had these powers were never able to use them for manipulating nature or any of the elements because the curse was stopping them. There weren’t just the four elements, from them originated all kinds of magic drawn from fire, water, land and air.
None of them had more than one magical ability, it wasn’t humanly possible to inherit such power through family.
The legend said whoever finds the stones will become powerful, no one could stand against it – if you survive bearing that much magic, that is.
