#qotd : standalones or series? Author: Pragya Agarwal Publisher: Bloomsbury Pages: 414 My Review: 🌟🌟🌟🌟/5 The book digs deep into how each of us form and carry unconscious bias of some sort. We judge, we exclude people, we stereotype. Many biases are formed throughout our life, though societal and parental conditioning and held at the subconscious level. Biases are linked intrinsically to our notion of self-concept and self-identity which is why it is difficult to shake them off. Social categorization occurs spontaneously when we meet new people. Without realization we tend to assign a category based on race, class, gender etc. In this book the author puts forward her points based on various studies and experiments. She tries to make us understand through various stories and instances from her own life. We are complex beings living in a problematic society with deep-rooted thoughts and beliefs which tend to influence our judgments often in the wrong manner. The book is very well researched and talks about numerous topics starting from gut instincts to herd mentality, from racial bias to explicit hate crimes. Lastly it also talks about de-biasing and how we need to activate our logical and rational thinking and actively get rid of any biases that can effect our decision-making process. If you want to get an in depth knowledge regarding unconscious bias you can definitely pick it up. Read the full review on my blog. ~~ Book Thoughts ~~ 🐉 Predictive text game: What would your fantasy book be called? “A Crown of ____ & ____” 😁 Love doing these! Think I’m gonna do them more 😇 🐉 Mine would be “A Crown of Midnight & Lovely” ✨ 🐉 🐉 Crown of Feathers by Nicki Pau Preto 🐉 First off, this book has a gorgeous cover with all the beautiful fiery, autumn colors. Secondly, the phoenixes in the book are BA and the whole idea of Phoenix Riders is SO neat. Like yes, I would love to be bonded with a Phoenix and be able to communicate with it telepathically and fly on it whenever I want! Sign me up! However, this book fell flat for me. While the concept is rad, the world-building and the fueling of the plot was so, for lack of a better word, boring. It didn’t start to get interesting until I got about 80% into the e-book and that’s only because there was some fighting going on and such that made it so interesting. I felt like there was hardly any action whatsoever until the very end; which I felt like there could of been so much action when this book is full of BA flying flaming birds, I mean come on! Another thing about this book is that there are 3 POVs, with it mainly being Veronyka & Sev then a few in there from Tristan’s POV; and most of the time I was left bored with Sev’s chapters and felt like he didn’t make too much of an impact for me in this book and I didn’t understand why he had so many chapters from his POV. I think it would have been better to read more from Tristan’s POV since I felt like he was more of a main character than Sev. I looked more forward to Tristan’s 4 or 5 chapters than Sev’s like 30 chapters. Overall, not a bad book, I just thought it was a little boring most of the time. Just finished this one, which was the March pick for the Book Buddy Box:

I didn't think I was going to enjoy this book at all when I read the book, I then went to loving to thinking it was good, the story itself is pretty basic, an Alien who has come to Earth one night see's a baby abandoned in a car, he decides to rescue said baby and take it back to his home planet where he raises the baby as his own, when we meet said baby again she is 8 Orbits old (or 12 years old) and is completely different from all the other beings on the planet, she has to come to terms with who she is and deal with what it is to be "Alien" in the world she has grown up in. When this book started off I really thought I was going to love it, the writing style was witty and right up my street but the wit soon dried up for me, I really struggled with the fact that on the planet they don't use vowels and sometimes this made certain words and passage indecipherable which let the story down a lot for me I think, the story was very slow to get going but when it did get going it was very fast paced, there was a few touching moments towards the end of the book where I had a lump in my throat. I really wanted to give this book four stars but I just couldn't due to the writing style. Overall one I would recommend to the right type of person.
